The iPhone 6s on Sprint and Verizon will be different models

Apple's latest round of iPhones will once again come in both a GSM and CDMA flavor, meaning those on Verizon and Sprint will have a different model. The four models: A1633, A1634, A1687 and A1688 will feature slightly different cellular connectivity inside, so depending on your carrier you may need a different version of the phones.

Here are the bands that will be found in the GSM model:

  • LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30)
  • TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
  • TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
  • UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

While the CDMA model will contain:

  • LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29)
  • TD-LTE (Bands 38, 39, 40, 41)
  • TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
  • CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
  • GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

If you take advantage of Apple's new iPhone Upgrade Program, you will receive the unlocked model that supports the needs of your carrier of choice. This mainly comes into play when purchasing a second-hand phone for use on a CDMA carrier.
