Pixelmator for iPad hopes to bring powerful image editing to mobile

Popular image-editing app Pixelmator has come to iPad. Announced last week, Pixelmator gives you a number of tools to create and edit images, from photos you've taken to new digital paintings, with different brushes, color correction tools, effects, and more.

Pixelmator gives you a number of templates to start with. Templates come with certain features ready to go, like effects or text. You can create photo mosaics, boarder pictures, holiday cards, posters, and more. You can also start out with a basic blank template, or create your own. You can also open and save files in a few different file types, including PSD, JPEG, and PDF.

Pixelmator's color correction tools are optimized for touch. The controls are big and responsive. You can apply a number of color presets to make colors warmer, or brighter, or to make your image black and white. You can control color levels, brightness, hue, and saturation.

There are dozens of effect filters to choose from. These include things like blur, sharpen, light leak, and bokeh. You can control how these effects work, such as the degree of the blur, or where exactly the light leaks.

Pixelmator is a layer-based image editor. You can select any part of an image at any time to make changes. You can isolate layers to apply effects and color changes to it only. Parts of images can be removed or added as you wish, and you can add parts of other pictures to yours.

You can download Pixelmator for iPad from the App Store right now.
