iOS surging as Android declines

Preliminary market share results are in and it looks as though Apple is surging while Android declines. With the release of the iPhone on the Verizon network less than six months ago, reports are saying the device is putting a halt to the sale of Android devices and with the much anticipated iPhone 5 coming soon it could put Android even further away from the momentum Apple is gaining with the iPhone.

    Verizon dropping unlimited data plans next month

    According to All Things Digital, a Verizon spokesperson has said that they will be dropping its their Unlimited data plan option in July.

    We will move to a more usage based model in July. We'll share more later.

    Verizon will be switching to a tiered data option for smart phone users on their network, and according to the source, the data caps and prices will be as follows,

    • 2GB - $30/month
    • 5GB - $50/month
    • 10GB - $80/month

    • Tethering is a $20/month add-on and includes an additional 2GB of data.

    • Overages are assessed at $10/GB.

    iPhone 5 world phone coming to Verizon same day as AT&T

    Verizon CFO Fran Shammo revealed today that iPhone 5 is still on track to be a dual-mode CDMA/GSM world phone, and additionally that it will ship at the same time as the AT&T and other GSM versions.

    When the next iPhone model launches Verizon will be able to offer it at the same time as AT&T. Verizon's version will also work in as many countries as AT&T's iPhone, which has global coverage, Shammo said.

    Apple passes Microsoft in profit, Verizon iPhone slows Android growth

    This year is turning out to be a big one for Apple. They recently passed Microsoft in net income earnings at $5.99 billion compared to $5.23 billion from Microsoft -- mainly due to iOS devices like the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 driving sales and raising profit margins. The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch currently represent roughly 65% of overall sales for Apple, with the Verizon iPhone helping push demand even further as Android growth seems to be at a plateau.

    Verizon sells 2.2 million iPhone 4, says iPhone 5 will be a world phone

    Verizon joined Apple and AT&T this week in releasing their quarterly results, and during the conference call revealed 2.2 million Verizon iPhone 4 were sold since launch, and that iPhone 5 looks to be a world phone. Overall, Verizon announced 6.3 percent year-over-year increase in revenues, data revenues up 22.3 percent, 1.8 million net new subscribers, and 104.0 million total connections, including 88.4 million retail customers.
