Codemasters makes a pretty incredible F1 game for consoles, and they're back with a new title for iOS in F1 Challenge. As with the console games, F1 Challenge comes filled with more licenses than you wave a checkered flag at. The only drawback; it's based on the 2012 F1 World Championship, so the current driver and team combinations don't apply.

Instead of trying to port the console experience to mobile, Codemasters has employed a top-down style of gameplay, reminiscent of their retro classic Micro Machines game from way back. The gameplay also adopts a challenge based approach, on top of regular style race events. As you progress through the game you're also treated to unlockable Formula 1 facts, a nice added bonus for fans of the sport.

Since it's just landed in the App Store, we're going to reserve final judgment until we've spent some more time with it. First impressions are pretty good, though, it's just a little disappointing that the 2012 season is the basis. It'll cost you $2.99, requires iOS 7 and a minimum of an iPad 2, iPod touch 5th generation and an iPhone 4 to play. If you've taken it for a test drive, drop us a line in the comments and tell us what you're thinking of it so far.
