Twitter Moments Canada

Heralded as one of the ways Twitter will engage with casual users, and dismissed by long-time users as distracting and useless, Moments has arrived in Canada after a sixth-month sojourn in then U.S.

Equipped with an editorial team "from Twitter Canada headquarters in Toronto," according to a post on the company's blog, it is "made up of seasoned media professionals with a strong focus on unique storytelling and sharing the best content."

"Whether it's the latest news about Canadian PM Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) or a grassroots movement happening in Victoria or St. John's, Moments will be a great resource for coast-to-coast Twitter stories you won't find anywhere else."

Available on iPhone today, a lightning bolt icon shows up on the bottom tool bar in the centre between Notifications and Messages — Twitter is positioning Moments prominently, and wants it checked often.

Delving into a story is akin to swiping through a Flipboard news article, but in this case the curated bits are individual tweets with photos, videos, or Vines, that attempt to tell a story. Some of the best Moments are collected during live events, when many Twitter users, including myself, find it difficult to track down the best Tweets from individual accounts on the ground.

Twitter is also sharing specific moments from its @CanadaMoments account, or from @TwitterCanada.
