When significant events happen, photographers and videographers often use expensive SLRs to capture the proceedings, but increasingly those tools are becoming less necessary.

To wit, Toronto-based photographer Matt Barnes took his iPhone 7 Plus and a handy phone tripod to Toronto's Eaton Centre this week to capture the unveiling of the world's biggest Christmas tree, an event held in the mall's mezzanine every November to rapturous applause and plenty of spectator participation.

This year, local crowdsourced music group Choir! Choir! Choir! was there to help ring in the event with renditions of popular songs. Barnes shot and edited the time lapse on his iPhone 7 Plus, and posted it to Instagram, the natural outlet for such good cheer.
