What you need to know

  • Apple is reportedly planning to release its new MacBook models late in Q3.
  • That would indicate its rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may be unveiled in just a few weeks.
  • Most likely it seems they could debut alongside the iPhone 13 in September.

New reports from Digitimes indicate Apple is gearing up to launch new MacBook Pro models late in the third quarter, perhaps alongside iPhone 13.

Digitimes statesthat new suppliers have entered the supply chain for the new MacBook Pro models, which it says will feature mini-LED like the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, according to Digitimes new suppliers will be ramping up shipments starting in the third quarter:

Zhen Ding, among suppliers of miniLED-backlight boards for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched in April this year, will complete its second-phase investment in capacity expansion for such boards in the third quarter to better serve the demand for the upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices set for launch in late third-quarter 2021, the sources said.

A report further states Tripod, another supplier "will be able to start production of miniLED-backlight boards for new MacBook Pro series in the third quarter as scheduled."

A second Digitimes report from today again indicates the MacBook Pro models will debut in late Q3, which runs from July to September, overlapping the iPhone 13 expected in September.

On Sunday, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stated that there won't be any Apple events or announcements until September's iPhone 13 launch. These combined reports seem to indicate with a good deal of certainty that we can expect new MacBook Pro models to debut alongside the iPhone 13.

The new Macs are expected to feature a new generation of Apple silicon, along with a return of some ports like the SD card slot and HDMI, as well as a return of MagSafe charging. With the return of all these 'pro' features the new MacBooks promise to be the best MacBooks in recent memory.
