Sprint is running a couple of different deals on the iPhone right now. The first major discounts involve the iPhone XS. You can get the 256GB version of the iPhone XS for $41.67 on the Sprint Flex Lease with a $150 instant discount. That deal is good for well-qualified customers who activate a new line or upgrade an eligible existing line. Or you can port your number over to Sprint and get the XS or XS Max on the Flex Lease with a $250 prepaid MasterCard.

The third deal available now is on the iPhone XR. Get your new iPhone XR and only pay $15 a month on the Flex Lease.

All of these deals require signing up for the Sprint plan called the Flex Lease, which is an 18-month commitment. After that time is up, you can return the phone and upgrade to a new model or buy the rest of the price of the phone. If you choose to buy out the phone instead of upgrading to whatever new iPhone is out at the time, you can either pay off the rest in one lump sum or choose a six-month payment plan. With iPhone Forever, you can upgrade to a new phone after 12 lease payments. The $250 prepaid MasterCard deal requires an online registration, and the card will be shipped sometime after 60 days.

The XR is normally $31.25 a month, so you're saving $16.25 every month. The deal is applied within two bills. It requires a new line of service and approved credit. You'll have to pay the remaining balance if you cancel early. It is available at this price in several colors including Black, White, Yellow, Coral, Blue, and Apple's (Product)Red. You can even upgrade to one of the higher capacities of 128GB or 512GB without impacting the price. The color options are more limited at 512GB, though, with just Black, White, and Blue available.

Check out our review of the iPhone XR where we gave it 4.5 stars out of 5 and said "It has almost everything you'd want in a flagship phone for 2018, minus the price tag that's typically coming with them these days." Our reviewer even used the phone for a month and wrote a followup afterward where he said "iPhone XR is legit a great product and it's going to be a great phone choice for a lot of people."

We also took a look at the iPhone XS seven months after its release. Renee Ritchie said "...if you need it or would benefit from getting it now, absolutely get an iPhone XS — or XR if you don't care about the OLED display or dual camera system and want to save some cash — now and have zero regrets." The review adds the "iPhone X was all new. iPhone XS is just all better. Better camera, better battery, better Face ID, better performance, and a new gold option. More than just being a great user experience, 7-months later something else is clear as well: It's a phone you can rely on."

J.D. Levite has been in the deals game since 2012. He has posted daily deals at Gizmodo, The Wirecutter, The Sweethome, and now for Thrifter. He was there for the first Prime Day and has braved the full force of Black Friday. If you cut him, he bleeds savings. But don't try it for real. That's a metaphor.

  • Sprint's service is garbage, so basically you're getting a really nice phone that is going to be useless unless you're on wifi
