iPad Air Smart Case vs. Smart Cover: Which should you get?

Along with the brand new iPad Air, Apple has also released two different accessories designed to protect and preserve it - Smart Covers and Smart Cases. Smart Covers attach via magnets and protect only the screen. Smart Cases wrap around and protect both the back and the screen. The cover leaves more exposed, but is lighter and sleeker. Apple rumored to have prototyped Surface-style keyboard covers for iPad

The "lots more to cover" tag line on Apple's October 22 event invitations have lead many to speculate about updated Smart Covers in general, and Logitech/Microsoft Surface style keyboard covers in specific. Apple has tossed out patent applications for such things in the past, of course, and it's one of the more popular third-party and competitive features. It's 36 seconds in length, features fun piano music and focuses on how it magnetically attached to the iPad and the wide selection of colors: pink, green, blue, light gray, dark gray and (PRODUCT) RED. The focus on the colors is done to the beat of the song and includes some cute tie-ins by making the Smart Covers look like piano keys and fingers tapping on the iPad mini to the beat as if playing a piano.
