How do you edit Live Photos on your Mac? With the built-in Photos app!

Taking Live photos on your iPhone is a really great way to relive a moment without watching a minute-long video or going through dozens of images. As awesome as Live Photos are, though, sometimes they may not turn out the way you'd want them to look: but that's what editing is for! And by using the Photos app for Mac, it's super easy to crop, rotate, filter, brighten, and so much more!

Unfortunately, the only thing you can't with Live Photos do it play with Markup editor... yet.

Here's how to edit Live Photos on your Mac!

How to automatically enhance a Live photo in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the magic wand tool at the top of the list.

    Your photo will be automatically enhanced!

How to rotate a Live photo in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the rotate button on the right side of the window.

  5. Click Done in the upper right corner of the screen when you are happy with your rotation.

How to crop a Live photo in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the crop button on the right side of the window.

  5. Click, rotate, and drag to crop** and adjust your photo to your liking.
  6. Click Done in the upper right corner of the screen.

How to add a filter to a Live photo in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the filters button on the right side of the window.

  5. Pick your favorite filter.
  6. Click Done in the upper right corner of the screen.

How to adjust Live photo settings in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the Adjust button on the right side of the window.

  5. Adjust your brightness, contrast, white balance, and whatever else until you're 100% satisfied.
  6. Click Done in the upper right corner of the screen.

How to retouch a Live photo in Photos for Mac

  1. Launch Photos.
  2. Double-click the Live photo you would like to edit. You can tell it's live because of the icon that appears in the upper-right corner.

  3. Click the Edit Photo button in the upper right corner. It's right beside the Details button.
  4. Click the retouch button on the right side of the window. It looks like a bandaid.

  5. Click and drag the slider to adjust the size of your retouching tool.
  6. Click Done in the upper right corner of the screen when you are happy with your retouching.
