Clock Apps

Best alarm clock apps for iPad: CARROT Alarm, Rise, Night Stand HD 2, and more!

Apple didn't always ship a Clock app with the iPad, but added it in with iOS 6, and updated it with iOS 7. The original was based on the famous Swiss Train clock, the new one on general look and feel of iOS 7 in general. Neither really made big, beautiful use of the big, beautiful iPad display. And lets face it, if you keep your iPad on a stand on your desk, beside the bed, or anywhere around the house or office, you might as well enjoy the experience. Luckily, there are lot of fancier options to choose from in the App Store. Here are my current favorite alarm clock apps for the iPad:

Wake N Shake for iPhone -- the evil alarm clock that's guaranteed to get you out of bed each morning

Wake N Shake for iPhone is the alarm clock for people like me -- those who hit snooze about 5 times before actually getting out of bed. We are so addicted to our precious snooze button, that we set our alarm early in anticipation of the fact that we'll be hitting snooze for at least a half hour. With Wake N Shake for iPhone, those days are over. This alarm clock requires you to rigorously shake your iPhone to turn it off. By the time you've shaken your iPhone enough to turn off the alarm, you'll be more than ready to get out of bed (and in need of a shower!).

Solving the case of the missing iPad apps: The best clock, voice recording, weather, calculator, and stock apps alternatives

Apple chose not to include clock, voice recording, weather, calculator, and stock apps, but luckily the App Store has great alternatives for each one!

When Steve Jobs introduced the very first iPad, one of his big statements was that the 75 million iPhone users in the world already knew how to use it. Well, many of those users were suprised to discover that four of the built-in apps that they had grown to love on their iPhone were missing on their iPad. Namely, Clock, Voice Memos, Weather, Calculator and Stocks. Rumor has it Apple didn't think those apps would scale to look good on the bigger iPad screen. Fortunately, many great developers have filled that void and proven that, not only can these apps look good on the iPad. They can look great.
