Apple to change free iPhone 4 case program on September 30

Apple is going to change their free iPhone 4 case program on September 30, the date originally given for the initial term of the program by Steve Jobs during the iPhone 4 press conference.
We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.
So if you bought or buy your iPhone 4 on or before September 30, and you just want a free case, download the Apple case program app and order it asap.
If you get your iPhone 4 on or after October 1 and have a real death grip or death touch problem, you'll have to talk to Apple Care for your free case.
Make sense?

Nope... No sense at all... Does that mean that maybe there is physical change in the phone after Oct 1st? We will have to wait and see.
No it means the issue of signal attenuation is smaller than originally thought (aka the media blew this BS WAY out of proportion)
I know a lot of people with iPhone 4s an they never had this problem. Hopefully we get news on the white one soon!!!
Mine is on the way
I only know 4 people myself included who have the iPhone 4, but we all have the death grip/touch issue. More or less I think apples only gonna give it to those who take the time out of their day to call them and complain about it and request a case. Either way the bumper did t solve the death grip issue on either of the four phones I listed above.
I live in Calgary and the death grip is definitely there on my phone and 3 of my friends. Before the bumper I dropped an average 1 call per day. With the bumper I have no issues. I still think it's very stupid you need to buy a case to use your phone properly.
One caveat in the fine print, jump on this as soon a you buy your phone. I got my phone on AT&T release day and bought a case right away, so I wasn't in a rush to do this. I finally got around to downloading the app and got a message that my phone was not eligible. I called Apple to see why and was told that you only have 30 days from the purchase of your phone to file for a case. I waited too long and now I'm out of luck.
The fix will be that they put electrical tape over the antenna inside the phone. Steve used iTape, a new groundbreaking tape that is like no tape you've seen before, it is the future of tape. Problem solved =).
I definitely had the DG issue pre case around my house. Post case everything is fine. I have a feeling that Apple added the Field Test Mode back in with 4.1 so that anyone that calls in will have to rattle off some numbers that make sense.
I know plenty of iPhone users that had a signal loss problem. It's called living on the AT&T network.
Oh you were talking about the antenna bridging issue, nevermind. >.>
I think it's ending then, because on October iPhone 4 will launch in countries, who don't have Apple stores and user can't get bumpers. Or maybe, bumpers will be included in iPhone box?
Buy the iPhone 3GS. Its the phone that works. My 3GS is great and have no intension on upgrading to the phone that has a design issue. Don't waste your money. Wait for the next one after the iPhone 4
@Hayden that's why I'm buying iPod touch 4
I just downloaded the app, opened it and got a message saying this iPhone 4 did not qualify!! Is that because I am in the UK or what?
Even with the free case, my phone still drops calls daily. Nearly every call encounters at least one drop...at I usually have four or five bars when it happens.
BE MINDFUL OF THE DATES! I bought the iPhone 4s in my house before August 22, so I'm outside of the dates for getting our bumpers. Previously, I thought I had until Sept. 30. Called Apple and they're "reviewing" my request for the bumpers outside of their guidelines. Spent 25 mins on the phone working this out. Hassle.
Yea physical change in the phone 2 months after release. That seems logical (not)
Also BestBuy is still running the free ZAGG cover for the bridging point if you want to avoid hiding the iPhone4's "pretty" form-centric design.
I just like it! Amazing article. I desire you up-to-date your blog significantly more often, I just cannot seem to be to acquire adequate of your blog. I preserved your blog in my bookmarks. Would it be feasible to do a guest post sometime?
Hi,
I just wanted to know that i’ve ordered my iphone 4 on 12 sept and it ships by 6th october .... So , am i eligible to get a free case from apple coz i buyed it before sept 30 ??
Do they count order date or delivery date ??
Kindly clarify…....
I tried to apply for the case program and it's telling me I don't qualify. I recently just updated my iPhone firmware. Could that possibly have anything to do with my qualification status?
i had the free case from apple and i did not like it too much. last week i found a sticker which i use now. actually the issue with the death-grip is not big at all but i found now that with the sticker a lot of people start asking me where did i get a orange iPhone 4 from. it think it is un for a while to have a iphone in a different color than everybody else...have a look: http://iphone-death-grip.com
