Halloween is just around the corner. Get into the spirit with these haunting apps and games!
If you're looking for a fun game to play that features all the ghouls and ghosts of Halloween, or if you want to get into the Halloween spirit with spooky apps, check out these great titles. They'll put you in the mood for tricks and treats!
The Walking Dead: The Game, Seasons 1 & 2
The Walking Dead single-handedly brought back the zombie craze, and in a major way. It went from comic book to television show to video game, and Telltale Games took the story idea and ran with it. In this game, you must decide at a moment's notice what to do next by choosing from a couple of options. Sometimes, decisions are really hard, like whether you should let one character die or another. The first episode of each season is free to download, so try one out to see if it's up your alley. I suggest starting with the first season because characters from the first show up in the second and you'll want to know why things have turned out the way they did.
Five Nights at Freddy's 1 - 4
If you've always had a secret fear that animatronic characters come to life at night and do nefarious things, your fears will be tenfold after playing the Five Nights series of games. It is dripping with atmosphere and does what every horror movie does well; scares the bejesus out of you. And, just like many horror movies, just when you think the bad guy is dead, he comes back ... again ... three more times.
- Five Nights at Freddy's
- Five Nights at Freddy's 2
- Five Nights at Freddy's 3
- Five Nights at Freddy's 4
Plants vs. Zombies 1 & 2
As far a zombies go, these are pretty easy to destroy as long as you hit them in the head. I guess it's because of their soft, deteriorating skulls. In Plants vs. Zombies, you can stop them in their tracks with a seed-spitting flower. With this tower defence classic, you can spend hours keeping the undead off your well-manicured lawn, as long as you have enough flower power to keep them at bay. You don't need both versions of the game. In fact, if you just want to try it out, I suggest getting PvZ 2 since it's free to download.
The Room 1 - 3
The Room is somewhat terrifying in that you sometimes feel like you are trapped when you are playing the game. Each installment gets slightly bigger than its predecessor, until you are not so much in a room as you are in a mansion. In this puzzle game, you must discover clues that will help you unlock boxes, reveal hidden doors, and find a way out. When you use the special glasses, you'll see into an underworld that you might just wish you never laid eyes on in the first place.
Haunt the House
Maybe it is terrifying being in a haunted house, but did you ever stop to think about how the ghosts feel? They're probably having the time of their lives. In Haunt the House, you get to be the haunter as you spook all if a house's inhabitants out of town. Jump into the lamp to make the lights flicker. Move furniture around while someone is looking. The more afraid the inhabitants get, the more likely they are to run scared. The goal is to empty each building so you can have the whole place to yourself.
It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
For 50 years, Charlie Brown has been synonymous with Halloween. In 1966, the cartoon classic aired for the first time on television, and today it's loved by all generations. Loud Crow has turned the tale of the Great Pumpkin rising out of the pumpkin patch on Halloween night into an interactive book, complete with costume cutouts and a pumpkin carving session. When you tap on some illustrations on each page, they will come to life and animate. Whether you're reliving your childhood memories or starting new ones with your own children, you'll love reading and interacting with this Peanuts classic.
Trick or Treat Stickers
Now that we can decorate our iMessages, holiday-themed sticker packs are all the rage. Halloween is the first big holiday to come through, so be sure to decorate your chat bubbles with all the spooky stickers you can find. Trick or Treat Stickers comes with dozens of awesome illustrations that are animated, so you can respond to iMessages with a monster fun. For just a dollar, you can unlock more than a dozen more adorable stickers.
Happy Haunting Sticker Pack
You can add a bit of flair to those selfies you send to your friends in iMessages with the Happy Haunting Sticker Pack. It comes with jack-o-lantern features that are probably supposed to be used with the included blank pumpkin, but look hilarious when you pin them to faces. There are also a few dozen stylized stickers to make your iMessage conversations hauntingly humorous.
I've actually mentioned myNoise in the past because it is a fantastic sound generator for all kinds of situations. Whether you are trying to meditate with nature sounds, focus on tasks with white noise, or fall asleep with binaural beats, you have dozens and dozens of options. Plus, every sound generator comes with a series of channels that you can control manually. The reason it is on this Halloween list is that it has a couple of sound effect generators that you can use to make your porch a little spookier. Use the Poltergeist sound generator to playback screams from beyond, Evil Charm to listen to whispering wanderers, and Dark World to add dungeon background noise. You can even combine all three sound generators and turn up or down different effect channels. myNoise is free to download, but to get all of the sounds, you'll need to pay $9.99 (believe me, it's worth it).
Ghost Lens 2
You can really bring ghostly delight into your life by filming your own, personal scary movie. With Ghost Lens 2, you can take multiple photos or videos and combine them into one screen, making the subject weirdly transparent while the background remains solidly opaque. You can also drop in an actual ghost! Well, not a real, actual ghost, but a scary looking apparition that can appear in the background of your already eerie shot. Throw an outrageous filter on the whole thing and you'll have yourself a video or photo that will make your friends flip out.
