Great idea for a podcast, but I'm a bit confused as to why this is posted to a blog about iPhone, iPad, and iPod (or anything Apple).
too many podcasts
ummm... is this still a tech blog?
I agree. It seems like everytime I come to TiPb, there is another random podcast series. Way too much.
Time for an podcast intervention.
An Onion article as evidence? Seriously?
Rene is the Donald Trump of podasts...
In January 2010 some readers were outraged we covered the iPad. (Is this still an iPhone blog?! they cried, pitchfork and torch in hand.) A year later, I bet most can't imagine us not covering it.
Growth is hard.
Gadgets and geeks do not exist in a vacuum. I firmly believe these are great shows and more than that, there are important shows. We're investing our time and effort in making them because they're the shows we want to listen to. Some of them, like ZENandTECH and Superfunctional couldn't be more important or more on-topic for our community.
Maybe we haven't introduced or explained them properly, and if so that's definitely my fault and something I'll address asap.
For now, just think of TiPb and SPE like a newspaper with many sections. Some of you just want news, some just how-tos. Some want only Jailbreak, some don't want to see it mentioned. We're not just a blog, we're not just a forum. We've been podcasting since the TreoCast and have had 4 nights of live streams for over a year already. Just like our blogs and forums have grown, our podcasts are growing to.
If you don't enjoy a particular podcast, or news story, or forum, I encourage you to skip to the next one. We deliver a lot of content every day, so we really hope there'll be something for everyone.
Bottom line, it's much easier to discuss things in a 30 or 60 min. podcast than it is the interview or type out the same amount of content in written form. So you guys are getting more stuff, and from people who are domain experts about the subjects we're discussing. In my mind, that's a huge win for everyone.
(Frankly, many of the people we're managing to get on our podcasts are professionals who charge a lot of money for their time as well (a lot of money), and they're generously donating it, as are the hosts, to our community for free. That's incredible to me. That's invaluable.
I'm obviously really invested in this. Creating something is very, very hard. I absolutely respect anyone's right to complain about any or all of the content we have here on SPE in general or TiPb is specific. Hopefully I've addressed some of that here and will address more going forward.
I get the impression you had something you wanted to get off your chest?!? I love TiPb and iPhone Live, but can see where people's concerns are about all the podcasts. We just don't want to see TiPb (something we love) become something we no longer want. To steal a "Steve-ism," focus isn't about saying yes, but saying no.
What a great podcast. To stand or not? I know I will be doing lot more standing after hearing this great information. Thanks
