Dodonpachi Resurrection for iPhone - app review

Do you like old-school shooters? If so, Dodonpachi Resurrection is the game for you! Cave has brought out another awesome shooter on the iPhone (the first being Espgaluda II).

There are two game modes in DoDonPachi. The first is iPhone mode which is a great way to jump in and play. It uses a hit variable to determine the strength of your weapons (the slider is indicated in the top right) and has an interactive hypermode to unleash the ultimate destruction on your enemies. The other mode is Arcade. This mode has you pick the fighter style you want and requires a bit more strategy while playing since you don't have the freedom you have in iPhone mode. You can also configure how much screen is displayed while playing (I am partial to large so I see as much of the screen as I can) as well as button placement for attacking enemy ships.

No Google Voice on iPhone: one year later

Tech Crunch's Jason Kinkaid reminds us that it's been a year since Apple responded to the FCC about Google Voice's rejection (or perpetual non-acceptance) from the iPhone App Store.

Apple denying the app to those who want it, especially when it allows similar apps such as Line2 into the App Store, means it's almost certainly what we thought it was last year -- less to do with what the app does than what it represents.

Facebook for iPhone updated to 3.2.1 to fix bugs, deny Places to those outside US

Yesterday saw the launch of Facebook 3.2 with Places support for iPhone, and today sees Facebook 3.2.1 with bug fixes and the explanation that Places is being rolled out slowly and is currently not available outside the US.

If this update solved any problems you were having, or clarified any confusion -- did it give you Places?! -- let us know!

[Thanks @shlov1]

So will you be using Facebook Places?

Facebook has launched their own location-based check-in service called Places, and updated their iPhone app to support it, but will you be using it?

Some people maintain sharing your life, and your location, allows for "serendipitous" discovery -- people who you may never otherwise know or meet see you're nearby and take the opportunity to say hello. Others think it's pretty much a gateway to everything from embarrassment to stalking.

Facebook 3.2 brings Places to iPhone

Facebook's iPhone app has been updated to version 3.2 and, among other things, brings support for the new Places service that lets you see where your friends are and what location-based social activities they're up to. (At least in the US, when I tried it it said it wasn't yet available in my region.)

What else is new?
