What you need to know

  • Apple released its new Beats Studio Buds just a few weeks ago.
  • In a seemingly un-Apple move, it is advertising them alongside the Samsung Galaxy S21.
  • It touted the benefits of one-touch pairing on Android and the Beats app.

Apple is advertising its new Beats Studio Buds alongside the Samsung Galaxy 21, in a seemingly very un-Apple move designed to prove its latest headphones are for everyone.

As spotted by Phone Arena, the advert appears in the Amazon listing (opens in new tab) for the new buds. The marketing material includes a large 'Compatible with Apple and Android' as well as a paragraph touting one-touch pairing on both iOS and Android:

Beats Studio Buds feature simple one-touch pairing for Apple and Android devices and easily connect via Bluetooth. With the Beats app for Android, you'll get features like built-in controls, device status (i.e. battery levels), and firmware updates. With Apple devices, those features are built in to iOS with no app required, and you can also activate Siri hands-free just by saying 'Hey Siri'.

Of course, Apple didn't miss the opportunity to entice Android users with the benefits of the Apple ecosystem, but the message is clear, Apple's new Beats Studio Buds are for everyone, not just Apple customers.

It follows news earlier this week from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who expects Apple to sell 100 million by 2021, in part thanks to a surge in popularity of its cheaper Beats buds and an emphasis on the Android market:

In the short term, Kuo states that Apple will help prop up its share of the true wireless market with models like its new Beats Studio Buds. Kuo says that Apple's adoption of MediaTek chips (as opposed to its own H1 chip) will aid Apple, especially in targeting Android users with less expensive alternatives to AirPods that don't require full buy-in to the Apple ecosystem to enjoy.
