Apple Watch used to automatically get any apps you downloaded on your iPhone and also supported Apple Watch automatically, and that use to be the only way to get apps on your Apple Watch. In watchOS 6, that's all changing. The App Store makes its first appearance on the Apple Watch since the product was first released, and it allows you to download apps directly on your Apple Watch. It's not quite as robust as the App Store on the iPhone, but it does make it easier to find Apple Watch apps when you don't want to pull on your phone.

How to search the App Store on Apple Watch

Searching for apps and games is pretty similar to the process on the iPhone.

  1. Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home screen on your Apple Watch.

  3. Tap Done.

On the Apple Watch Apps Store you'll only be show results for apps that support Apple Watch, so if you don't find the app you're looking for, try looking on the App Store on your iPhone.

  • Is the Watch App Store only available on the watch or is it also in the watch app on the phone as it is currently? Frankly, I don’t think I want to try to find apps on the tiny watch screen. Also, if I have an app on my phone and my watch will they need to be updated separately, or will it continue to work as it does now? I’m really going to limit the apps I put on my watch if I have to go through the hassle of updating apps on my watch.
  • Three months later and I’m still looking for answers to these questions!
  • It’s on both :)
  • I have two App Store accounts, one in the US and one in Switzerland where I live part time. My Apple Watch seems to be stuck on the wrong store, and it's not the Store I'm signed into on my iPhone. Can't find any way to switch stores on the Watch or the Watch App on the iPhone. This also affects my iTunes store, so my music Library and Apple Music are unavailable. Any idea how to switch stores on the Watch?
