Verizon will introduce a revamped company logo later this week [Update: it's official]

Earlier this week, Google revamped its official logo, and soon Verizon Wireless will do the same thing. The wireless carrier will officially reveal the new logo for the company on Thursday.
According to Ad Age:
Verizon said that design agency Pentagram created the new logo. Landor Associates crafted the old Verizon logo back in 2000, when Verizon Communications was formed after the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp."
Even though the change wasn't supposed to be revealed today, the new logo leaked onto the Internet via Twitter. The two major changes are that the red "Z" in the middle of the old logo has been ditched and the large red checkmark above the logo has now been moved to the right side and cut down in size.

There's no word if Verizon plans to launch a major new marketing campaign on Thursday alongside the revamped logo.
Update: It looks like Verizon isn't waiting to officially show off the new logo after all. The company has officially announced the change, debuting the same logo that was leaked earlier — albeit on a white background with black text.
