Instapaper update brings new look, more features to the iPad

Instapaper has been updated, bringing some of the enhancements to the iPad that came first to the iPhone in September, including a new look and feel. Instapaper for iPad has a new color scheme, new sections, and some other enhancements as well. The same sorting and filtering capabilities found on the iPhone are also now found on the iPad.

Instapaper for iOS updated with support for background updates

Popular read it later app Instapaper has just released an update that allows it to update in the background. This has been done using the iOS 7 background app refresh feature. For read it later services, background app refresh can be a big deal since it means you don't have to remember to open Instapaper periodically in order for it to pull in anything you've sent to the service.

Instapaper updates to support iOS 7, adds sorting and filtering

Instapaper 5.0 is now available, sporting several improvements, including sorting, filtering and an iOS 7-ready design. This is also the first release of the app by Betaworks since they purchased Instapaper from Marco Arment in April. The major changes have come only to the iPhone for now, with iPad optimization coming soon.

ReadKit for Mac keeps your reading together in one fast, stylish place

The Google Reader apocalypse sent many of us scrambling for replacements on both our iOS devices and our Macs. Some of the more popular options, such as Reeder, haven't updated in time for the Mac, or perhaps our new RSS service of choice isn't supported by our most used application. The scramble settled, eventually, and I found myself on Newsblur which then lead me to ReadKit for Mac. Instapaper sold to Betaworks

Marco Arment, creator of popular read-it-later service Instapaper, has sold a majority stake in the service to Betaworks. Arment was concerned that he alone was not able to give Instapaper the attention that it needed going forward, determining that to remain healthy, it would need a full team of developers.
