Ad hoc is our movie, television, and general nerdery podcast where a bunch of geeks get together to talk everything from the best flicks of 80s to the current blockbusters in the theater. This week Georgia, Guy, Rob, Rene, and Dave, talk Marvel Cinematic Universe, from Iron Man to Avengers, and then dive into the latest film, Captain America: The Winter Solider. And, yes, sigh, agents of S.H.I.E.L.D as well.
The sequel to the 2011 Thor feature film, and the 2012 Avengers team-up, Thor: The Dark World, opened wide in theaters this weekend. I just saw it and it's pretty much the Iron Man 2 of the Thor series. More action, but less consistency. In other words, if you're a fan of Marvel, Midgard, or the mighty Mjolnir, you'll have a ton of fun. If you're not up to speed on the Thor movies, or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, or if you simply want to read the awesome, epic Walter Simonson source material from whence it was all drawn, iTunes and Amazon have you covered.
Gameloft has announced that - of course - they'll be bringing an adaption of Marvel and Disney's upcoming Thor sequel, Thor: The Dark World to iOS along with the movie this fall. The movie, a follow up to the Avengers as much as the original film, sees Thor facing off against the dark elf, Malekith the Accursed. Hammer-smashing action and adventure is almost certain to follow.
The first teaser trailer for Thor 2: The Dark World has hit the internet and... I don't know what to make of it yet. I enjoyed Malekith, the accursed dark elf, as Walt Simonson rendered him in the Thor comics decades ago, but I don't get any real sense of his character here and how it plays into whatever greater story arc they have for Thor this time around. And his look in the film doesn't really wow me so far.
