Get your hands on Amazon's 7th-generation Fire 7 tablet for under $40

Hot on the heels of an updated Amazon Fire 7 tablet (opens in new tab) being announced, Amazon has dropped the price of its 7th-gen Fire 7 tablet (opens in new tab) to just $39.99. The tablet was already super affordable at $50, but the new model has now taken on that price point meaning the previous version has dropped by $10. At $40, it's down to one of its best ever prices, only being beaten by Prime Day and Black Friday sales. The savings also extend to the previous-gen Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet (opens in new tab), falling to $89.99 each or $149.99 for two (opens in new tab).
This 7-inch tablet comes in three colors and is currently at one of its best prices ever — but once it's gone, it's gone.

The same great tablet wrapped in a super protective case. It's also provided with a year of FreeTime Unlimited worth $119 and a 2-year "worry-free guarantee" so even if your little one breaks it, Amazon will replace it for free.

The new Fire 7 (opens in new tab) adds a faster processor, Alexa hands-free capabilities as well as 16GB of storage by default and support for larger microSD cards, but other than those spec bumps it remains mostly unchanged. So if you don't need those features, or don't like the look of the new colors, the 7th-gen is for you — especially at just $40.
Amazon's 7th-generation Fire 7 is equipped with a 7-inch IPS display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, and an 8GB storage capacity. If 8GB isn't enough, you can expand its storage space using a microSD card such as SanDisk's 32GB option (opens in new tab). That card is just $7 right now, meaning you'll still have change from the money you saved. The tablet is capable of lasting for up to eight hours on a single charge and still features Alexa (you just have to hold the home button to access it) so you can ask questions, tell it to play a song, check the weather and more. You'll also have access to Amazon's App Store where you can download apps like Netflix, Facebook, HBO, Hulu, and Spotify. For more info, check out Android Central's review of the device.
It's likely that the 7th-gen Fire 7 tablet will soon sell out and after that point stock will not be replenished, so get your order in as soon as possible if you want to grab one.
