No Flash Support in iPhone, Awe Shucks

Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so!

Our sources at WWDC are reporting that, for now, there is officially no Flash support on the iPhone. Apparently, in the State of the Media address yesterday, the announcement was made that: "There will be no Flash support at the moment on the iPhone." Developers are being told not to serve video via Flash, as there simply isn't a player built for the phone yet.

Update: June 29, at 6:00PM Local Time

MacRumors has confirmed one small but significant tidbit about the June 29 iPhone launch. The 6:00pm launch is local time, not nationwide. What does that mean, you ask? It means that folks on the east coast will be getting their iPhones a full three hours before west coasters! Na na nah nah na nahhhhhhh!

While Steve Jobs gave us an exact time (6 p.m.) to line up for buy an iPhone, he didn't go into many details. As it turns out, the iPhone will be sold on June 29th at 6 p.m. local time -- so East Coasters will get a full 3 hour head start over their West Coast counter parts. A memo sent by AT&T confirmed this today: The iPhone will go on sale on at AT&T retail stores June 29 at 6 p.m. local time in each market.

Unlocked iPhones? I'll Believe it When I see it

File this under the crazy claims category. A website called Pure Mobile is peddling what it alleges to be unlocked iPhones, soon to be available to anyone with a sustainable credit card. Now, I don't know whether this is lame attempt to drive traffic to their site or if (and that's a big IF) they've somehow managed to cheat the system by acquiring pre-locked iPhone units. Whatever the case may be, I'll be getting my hands on one the old fashioned way - by stealing purchasing one through AT&T.

iTunes Account Required for iPhone? Say What!?

Stop the presses! The Wall Street Journal is claiming that it heard from a source, who heard from a friend, who knows a guy that has a brother who was told by a street corner hooker, that Apple will require iPhone users to register an iTunes account in order to use the phone. Oh the humanity.

Ok, this isn't as extreme as it might sound. Registration is free, and since I already have an iTunes account I won't be screaming bloody murder.

Walt Mossberg Has an iPhone, Dances in the Streets

Uncle Walt has an iPhone and is eagerly showing it to anyone he can impress. His impression so far is mixed, with the onscreen keyboard being the crux of his unease.

“I don’t know whether I’ll give it a good review or not,” he said, noting that he will use the phone for the next couple of weeks before writing his review. “I can already see some things I don’t like about it. I see some other things that I do like a lot about it.”
