A tale of two bigger iPhones

One of the more popular rumors making the rounds right now is that Apple will release not one but two new, bigger iPhones this year. The first would be the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the second, a 5.5-inch Apple "phablet". These rumors aren't coming from overly sensational, overly outlandish sources,...

iPhone 6: Six things I'd like to see!

iPhone 6 fantasies will no doubt reach fetishistic levels at some point, but we're far enough out from the fall, and from the inevitable leaks that will come as fall approaches, that many possibilities, many dreams, remain open to us. What with the all the new Android phones at MWC dropping like...

The new HTC One (M8) and the iPhone 5s

If you want an aluminum phone, you've come to the right place. The iPhone is no stranger to metal, of course. (And presumably it'll stay that course with the iPhone 6 later this year.) But today, Android smartphone manufacturer HTC announced its newest flagship with an old name — the HTC One....

iPhone 5c review: 6-months later

Editor's note: The iPhone 5c was released 6 months ago today. Since I've been using the iPhone 5s almost exclusively since then I wanted someone else, someone who's been using the iPhone 5c day in and day out, to write the follow up for Apple's other new phone. Someone perhaps not as steeped in...

Chinese networking site Weibo posted a photo showing the Apple A5 system-on-a-chip (SoC) used in the iPad 2 nestled into what appears to be a next generation iPhone logic board. The logic board is connected to a white iPhone 4-like front cover with a speaker mesh that looks slightly larger than that of the official white iPhone 4.

Poll: Would you be less likely to get iPhone 5 if there's no new design?

Would you be less likely to get iPhone 5 if there's no new design?

There are two seemingly conflicting rumors circulating about iPhone 5's design -- 1) that it will be a real, radical iPhone 5 redesign in a thinner, curvier, bigger screened, dare-I-say more metal-backed package, or 2) that it will be more of an iPhone 4S with increased specs like an Apple A5 chip but the overall design will still be the same as the current iPhone 4, stainless steel sandwiched in glass.

I've been hoping for option 1, a real, redesigned iPhone 5 since about a minute after I saw the back glass of iPhone 4. Jeremy on the other hand keeps bringing me down by saying "you get iPhone 4S!".

MacRumors got wind of research note from -- wait for it -- an analyst named Ming-Chi Kuo who claims Apple is sending the gold master (GM) build of iOS 5 to manufacturers for assembly of iPhone 5 sometime between September 23 to 30.

However, Kuo actually seems to be referring to the rumored N94 update of iPhone 4 (sometimes referred to as iPhone 4S. He provides the following details:

Prototype iPhone N94 back plat gets leaked?

MacPost has received what, if authentic, appears to be the back plate of Apple's iPhone N94 prototype. Whether N94 is iPhone 5 or an updated iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S is unknown.

The codename ‘N94′ marked on cover clearly indicates that it is a fifth-generation iPhone part. The front cover, however, is labeled “EVT2″ (Engineering Verification Testing) with date ’07-June-2011′, marking it as early development prototype.

iMore has learned that Apple's next generation iPhone, be it an iterative "iPhone 4S" or a completely revamped "iPhone 5" could go on sale as early as October 7 in the US. That's a Friday, which is typical for iPhone launches. Originally Apple was considering a second week of October launch, more like October 14, but it sounds like they may be ready to go earlier now.

iPhone 4s coming in July / August, same form factor but with A5 chipset and SIM-less? [rumor]

Macotakara, a Japanese blog, are rumoring that Apple will release an "iPhone 4S" in July or August this year with the same form factor as the current iPhone 4, with a a completely new model, or "iPhone 5" not be launched until Spring 2012 (!). The main difference will be in the hardware inside the phone. They claim that the iPhone 4s will have an 8-megapixel camera, an Apple A5 chipset based on the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, and will have a built-in SIM and thus not require the card.

iPhone 4S coming at WWDC? [rumor madness]

Electric Pig claims Apple PR has been inviting top UK journalists to WWDC next month and guesses it's... to have them there for an iPhone 4S launch. WWDC takes place June 6 through June 10 and this is where Apple is set release iOS 5.

A source tells us that Apple’s UK iPhone PR team is approaching journalists from major publications to fly out to the event in San Francisco next month. The obvious conclusion would be that Apple is announcing a new iPhone. Or rather, an updated model. The iPhone 4S is slated as a stop-gap before the appearance of a true, ‘&%!*, they’ve done it again!’ game-changer next year.

Apple job posting hints at iPhone 5 possibly coming to Sprint

Apple has put up a job post requesting a carrier technician familiar with the Sprint network, which has led many to believe they may be prepping to include Sprint in their ammunition chest of US carriers that support the iPhone.

Apple in a newly discovered job posting effectively gave away plans to make a Sprint iPhone. A position for a "carrier engineer" is being offered that would work out of Kansas City, Missouri, just a short distance from Sprint's Overland Park, Kansas headquarters. The recruit would be responsible for getting technical certification of devices in an area where Sprint is the only company with a major office.

iPhone 5 release pool: 'iPhone 4S' won't support LTE, arriving in September with Sprint & T-Mobile support?

Forbes is reporting on a research note from analyst Peter Misek, who claims Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 in September. Misek states Apple will be going with 'iPhone 4S' as the name, following in the footsteps of the 3G to 3GS upgrade, and will not support LTE because the Qualcomm chipset isn't ready just yet. He also believes Sprint and T-Mobile will be onboard at launch.

iPhone 5 photos with 3.7" display - real, fake, or really fake?

M.I.C Gadget got their hands on some photos of what could be a prototype iPhone 5 with a larger display in the white varient. The unit looks to have a 3.7" screen with edge-to-edge glass running an unknown version of iOS and a new proximity sensor reported to be included in the official White iPhone 4. Or it could be a KIRF.

iPhone 5 rumors have been escalating recently, and this latest photo adds no real clarity to the mix. On one hand we have Joshua Topolsky's 4-inch display with a teardrop MacBook Air-style chassis, on the other, the same design as the iPhone 4 with a faster processor and better graphics? Or neither?

Your guess is as good as ours at this point. Check out the pics

Game developers testing Apple A5-chip equipped iPhone 4?

9to5Mac has heard that Apple is allowing select, high level gaming companies to get a head start developing for the next-generation iPhone 5 via a special A5-chipset powered iPhone 4.

The person who chose to share this information with us calls it the ‘iPhone 4S’, though the device itself only has typical Apple prototype nomenclature. He also shared that the device spends its evenings in a safe in the company’s offices.
