Google Chromecast gets a little more useful today as the HBO Go application for iPhone and iPad has been updated with support for Google's $35 dongle. You'll need to be a HBO subscriber, of course, but otherwise fire it up and you should be good to go to beam stuff over to your Chromecast.

Apple TV keeps users from cutting the cable TV cord

Services like iTunes and products like Apple TV have made it easier than ever for people to "cut the cord" from cable TV - enabling them to pay either a la carte for programming they want or to use subscription-based services they think are worth the money, like Netflix or Hulu Plus. Apple's latest changes to Apple TV sadly don't do anything to help that move - in fact, they work against it.

Apple reportedly in negotiations to have HBO Go on Apple TV

Apple and HBO are engaged in talks to bring the pay-TV channel's HBO Go service to the Apple TV set-top box, according to a new report from Bloomberg. While many modern media distribution companies like Hulu and Netflix have embraced Apple TV, the more traditional outlets like the big broadcast channels and pay channels like HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax have been more hesitant in their overtures. While most have apps available for iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, the fact that the Apple TV is hooked up to a television - their turf - has always been a source of tension.

HBO Go to bring Game of Thrones, Sopranos, movies, more to iPhone and iPad

After years of rumors it looks like HBO is finally ready to throw their hat -- and programing content like Game of Thrones and Sopranos -- into the iPad and iPhone ring with HBO Go. It looks like it will have all their original hit shows and some movies as well, and work over Wi-Fi and 3G.

HBO Go will come via "participating TV providers" -- whatever that means -- perhaps as early as May 2. You'll have to be an HBO subscriber to use it. No word yet on whether it will be available internationally -- but we can dream, right?

Video after the break.

HBO coming to iPad

Great news for HBO fans! In an interview with Mossberg, HBO Co-President Eric Kessler said that HBO subscribers will be seeing HBO Go on their iPad's soon.

In six months, HBO Go will be available to the channel’s paying subscribers at no additional cost through all major cable systems, on Apple Inc.’s iPad, on mobile devices and elsewhere.

In addition to this great news, Kessler also delivered the disappointing report that HBO and Netflix will likely not be making a deal, so don't expect to see HBO shows on Netflix for iPad anytime soon.
