Flickr app for iOS updated with new interface and fresh editing tools

Flickr for iOS just got a complete overhaul, bumping the app to version 3.0 and bringing a host of new and welcome features. First thing you'll notice upon opening the new Flickr is the completely redesigned interface, bringing it to modern design standards on iOS 7. It also just looks plain better than the old version, even though it wasn't an ugly app before by any means. The app has also improved its suite of editing tools that were previously updated back in August.

Dropbox to fold photo sharing app Loom into Carousel

Loom, the cloud storage and organization service and app for photos and videos, has been bought by Dropbox. Loom allowed you to quickly and easily share photos from your iPhone and Mac through the cloud, and was about to face some tough competition from Dropbox and their recently-announced Carousel app.

Carousel integrates with Dropbox's cloud storage and can automatically upload and organize your photos. While the terms of the deal weren't disclosed, Loom did announce that they are no longer accepting new users and will be shutting down their service in one month.

iPhone 5s vs. HTC One M8: Camera shootout!

The iPhone 5s and the HTC One M8 arguably have two of the best smartphone cameras on the market. Sure the iPhone is 6 months old and the HTC One is brand new, but until Apple releases an iPhone 6, these are devices we have to choose from right now. The HTC One M8 tosses conventional megapixels aside in favor of UltraPixels, which is a fancy way of saying they suck in a lot of light. The iPhone 5s' iSight camera has smaller pixels, but twice as many. Even though both of them look great on paper, how they perform in the real world is what really matters. That's why we're putting the iPhone 5s and HTC One M8 head-to-head, camera-to-camera, in a full-on, in depth, photography shootout. So, which smartphone camera reigns supreme?

Weekly photo contest: Animals!

Animals are a great subject for photography. We aren't talking house pets here though, we're talking animals that you found outside. Whether it be birds, squirrels, a fox, or something else that's native to your area. Your task this week is to capture a great shot of an animal outdoors. Keep in mind a few things though — composition matters, and a photo of the family dog in the back yard won't take the prize. So get out there and find some interesting animal shots!

The contest begins today and ends Tuesday, April 1st at 6 p.m. Eastern time. Good luck!
