How to AirPlay from Apple's new Music app

With AirPlay, the content you have in iTunes is only ever a few taps away from filling your living room, bedroom, or entire house. That includes all the songs, albums, and playlists you have. Best of all, you can engage AirPlay right from the Now Playing screen or display.

How to turn on AirPlay from the Now Playing display

If you want to AirPlay, you can do it from right inside the Music app or iTunes.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

  1. Tap on the track information button, or swipe up from, the mini player to access Now Playing.
  2. Tap on the AirPlay button, middle right.
  3. Tap on the source you want to AirPlay to.


To turn off AirPlay, just go back to the source list and choose your iPhone or iPad.

On your Mac

  1. In iTunes, click on the volume button in the toolbar.
  2. Select the Single or Multiple tab depending on whether you want sound just from the AirPlay device(s) or also from your local machine.
  3. Click the checkboxes next to the source(s) you wish to play music out of.

  4. Adjust volume accordingly.

How to AirPlay when you're not in iTunes or the Music app

Even if you're not in iTunes or the Music app, you can still enable AirPlay.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Swipe up from the bottom bezel to bring up Control Center.
  2. Tap the AirPlay button, middle right.
  3. Tap on the source you want to AirPlay to.


To turn off AirPlay, just go back to the source list and choose your iPhone or iPad.

On your Mac

  1. Option-click on the Volume icon in the menu bar.
  2. Select the Output Device you'd like to AirPlay to.
