Square Mobile Credit Card Service Now Up and Running
Square is a new credit card payment service that allows users to take credit card payments directly to their mobile devices. Businesses can now apply for a Square merchant account, and if approved, will be given a free reader. Square was first announced last year and gained quite a bit of interest. One of the perks for merchants is that there are no annual fees tied to the service. Each transaction will be charged 2.75% of the purchase price plus $0.15 per credit card swipe. For those of you familiar with some of the fees some companies stick to merchants, this isn't a bad deal - especially considering you can accept payments on the go, which is ideal for smaller businesses and contractors. Square is currently available on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and a handful of Android devices. iPhone 4 users can also enjoy the new second generation reader that is not only slimmer, but is better at capturing images at varying speeds.

Does this mean they are caught up with the backlog of activations and reader shipments? I got mine like 3 weeks ago and it works great! Also, they are already shipping new readers that are thinner and have a plastic bottom to fix issues with the iPhone 4.
Really, I spoke to a friend in Boston over the weekend and neither of us have gotten a reader yet even though we both signed up weeks ago
I got my reader. And with the little trick to use a piece of paper to make sure the reader doesn't touch the iPhone 4 metal band it works great. But what i don't get is why you need the reader at all... I just punch the numbers in manually and it seems quicker and less clunky than carrying another accessory around. What am I missing?.... Why the need for the plastic doohiicky???
Rates are cheaper for a swipe than typing the numbers. Has to do with the added security of having the card present.

Lovin' my Square. I'm up and running, and I must say, despite the early problems (getting a damn dongle), it is so very cool!
I ended up getting two readers about a week ago, both of them the old style. Not sure what happened there. Hmmm...
Yah I got my first gen reader and then a week later second one came in why even ship first one weird
Best POS system ever. I have been using it mainly on my ipad (for my business) but I use the iphone app on the go. Customers really like it- which is great because it saves me a bunch of money!
