Asphalt Overdrive from Gameloft is coming Thursday for iPhone and iPad

During E3 this year, Gameloft announced the latest game in the Asphalt series of racers. Surprisingly, the next Asphalt won't be Asphalt 9. Instead, the series is spinning off in a new direction with Asphalt Overdrive. Instead of a serious arcade-style racer, the new Asphalt will be an endless racer – sort of like Gameloft's recently released Spider-Man Unlimited or Sega's Crazy Taxi City Rush.

Spider-Man Unlimited slings onto iPhone and iPad

Itching for some Spidey action? Wait no longer, as Spider-Man Unlimited is now available for the iPhone and iPad. The endless runner is based on the comics, so there are plenty of villains for you to combat. This is the first free Spider-Man game from Gameloft, and the studio has indicated that new characters will be released in a timely fashion.

Modern Combat 5 for iPhone and iPad now available

We got an early look in our Modern Combat 5 review yesterday, and now y'all can get in on the best first-person-shooter to hit iOS in some time. This game rocks top-notch graphics, challenging multiplayer, and action gameplay honed over several generations of the franchise. What's most impressive here is the absolute lack of in-app purchases.

Modern Combat 5 review - raising the bar for mobile action

Modern Combat 5 is the latest in a long series of high-quality first person shooter games from Gameloft. The whole Modern Combat series shamelessly riffs on popular shooter franchises like Call of Duty, and has been doing so well before official mobile counterparts for those games were made. Even now that Call of Duty has come to mobile, Modern Combat 5 still manages to give it a run for its money.

By and large, Modern Combat 5 is lock in step with Modern Combat 4. It boasts bar-setting graphics, rich multiplayer, familiar experience and achievement progression, a dazzling array of weapon customization, and top-notch voice acting. That's great and all, but there is one distinct difference in Modern Combat 5 which could easily stand as the sole selling point: there are zero in-app purchases.

Spider-Man Unlimited webslinging onto iOS this September

Spider-Man Unlimited was the last mobile game we checked out at E3 2014. This endless runner features the friendly neighborhood webslinger we all know and love in a familiar format. Players swipe left, right, up, and down to dodge obstacles and lay the smack down on whatever baddies you happen upon. Webslinging mini-games shift perspective in a way similar to Gameloft's other popular runner, Despicable Me: Minion Rush. With one-touch controls during these sequences, you've got to time your releases so you get through certain target zones.

Asphalt Overdrive puts endless driving into retro package

Another one of the many games Gameloft had on display at E3 2014 was Asphalt Overdrive. Though there are cars on roads, and they're often doing the unlikeliest of barrel rolls after launching off ramps, this isn't quite an Asphalt game you'd expect. Instead of a full-bore racing game, Asphalt Overdrive is more of an endless runner, which has players quickly swiping to steer between lanes, trash competitors, and dodge obstacles.

Hands-on with Modern Combat 5, Gameloft's upcoming IAP-less shooter

Gameloft has been teasing Modern Combat 5 for weeks now through the occasional live stream and scintillating trailer. We got some time at E3 2014 to put our dirty little thumbs on it. The biggest (but far from only) change in Modern Combat 5 is that there are no more in-app purchases. Players won't be able to buy their way to the top and will have to earn their unlocks like everybody else. As always, Modern Combat sports bar-setting graphics with some particularly great water reflection and disorientation effects.

Spider-Man Unlimited coming to mobile platforms in September

Mobile gaming giant Gameloft has been quite successful with its mobile games based on Marvel film properties, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, and Iron Man 3.  It also happens to have published Despicable Me: Minion Rush, one of the better 3D endless runners out there. So what happens when we combine both things?
