Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus for iPhone - app review

Are you ready for the ultimate in iPhone first-person shooter games? If so, then sit back and enjoy Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus. Gameloft has really, really, really shown it is in this to win and take advantage of the hardware on iPhone. This game is gorgeous, especially on the retina display. Ah, but let's not dwell on the graphics for now, let's jump into the game itself.

Cut the Rope for iPhone - app review

Cut the Rope for iPhone is a simple, yet challenging strategy type game.  Your little frog Om Nom wants candy.  The candy is hanging from random ropes with all kinds of obstacles in the way.  Your job is to find a way to cut the strings in the right order to get the candy into Om Nom's mouth.  You'll also need to collect stars on the way down.  The more stars you collect and the quicker you complete a level, the more points and achievements you'll earn.

Zentomino for iPhone - App Review

Zentomino for iPhone is an easy to play puzzle game and a great time killer. While the game may have a simple concept, some of the puzzles are not as simple to solve. To complete a puzzle, you'll take Tetris-like pieces and fit them inside the puzzle designs without overlapping or going outside the boundaries. Drag pieces out of their places or back in, tap them while on the board to rotate them. Sometimes you'll use all the pieces allotted to you, sometimes you won't.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD for iPad - app review

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD for iPad (GTA henceforth) is a great homage to its console brethren. Good story? Check. Good graphics? Check. Plenty of adult-themed action, adventure, and melodrama? Check. Check. Check.

Mirror's Edge for iPhone - App Review

Mirror's Edge for iPhone by EA recently debuted in the app store. [iTunes Link]  This is one game I was pretty excited to get my hands on.  If you own an iPhone 4, odds are, you won't be disappointed as all graphics are beautifully optimized for the retina display.  There's also a version available for the iPad which clocks in at a bit higher of a price.  We'll look at that version in a later review as well.  For now, click on through to read a full review and see tons of screenshots for the iPhone version!

Apple review guidelines: yes to kids, no to farts

While Apple's newly published App Store review guidelines are locked up nice and tight behind the iOS developer login, Engadget is hosting a copy in the clear. They've also broken out some highlights:

App Store adds Game Center games section

If you're trying to keep track of all the newly updated, Game Center enabled games for iOS 4.1, look no further than the App Store where Apple has gone and created a special page just to list them for your viewing -- and buying -- pleasure.

There's about a dozen and half games now but we're guessing it will fill out quickly now that iOS 4.1 is live.

If you've tried some out, let us know your favorites.

We'll update this post -- and we'll keep updating our new Game Center games tracker in the iPhone Forums -- as new ones arrive, but here's a first look at Leaderboards and Achievements... after the break!

For more new features, see our iOS 4.1 walkthrough.

[Ms. Pac Man on iTunes, thanks @neilwarner for the tip!]

Final Freeway - app review

I have seen Final Freeway in the App Store for a while and just glanced by. When looking at apps to review this week I felt a little nostalgic and thought I would give this little gem a spin. The result? Well, if you enjoy old-school arcade racing, if you remember when Out Run was the arcade game, then Final Freeway is for you!
