A lament for the end of Macworld Expo

On Tuesday IDG World Expo (the trade show business unit of the same company that owns Macworld.com) announced that it was putting Macworld/iWorld — the show formerly known as Macworld Expo — on hiatus. Given that the printed magazine just saw its last issue distributed, I'm not surprised, but I am sad that it's come to this.

Macworld/iWorld 2015 conference cancelled, series put on hiatus

Sad news, folks: the Macworld/iWorld conferences are no more. IDG, the company behind both the long-running conference and the recently-downsized and de-magazined Macworld publication, announced today that the conference is "going on hiatus", and that the 2015 event will not happen. Macworld/iWorld has struggled in recent years with the loss of Apple as a keynote partner, with the company around which the conference revolved opting to focus more on their own events and putting significant capital into WWDC.

Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad will make an appearance in the opening keynote at this year’s Macworld / iWorld event. Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad play Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak respectively in the upcoming movie biopic jOBS. They will be followed later in the day by musician will.i.am and Intel’s futurist Brian David Johnson.
