UK operators will invest £5 billion in infrastructure to solve network 'not-spots'

The UK government has managed to reach an agreement with local operators to work on the issue of nationwide 'not-spots': areas restricting access to basic mobile functions due to weak signal coverage. EE, O2, Three and Vodafone will invest a guaranteed £5 billion to improve mobile infrastructure by 2017 with the aim to provide 90 per cent of the UK with both voice and text coverage.

New legislation could be in the works to effectively force UK operators to offer roaming options for customers where signal is poor. The UK government continues to work with mobile carriers on a solution to address black spots and areas where signal is hard to come by. Vodafone doubling bundled entertainment on its Red 4G plans

Vodafone has today announced the UK mobile operator will be packing more entertainment into Red 4G plans for a limited time. Between September 12 and November 3, customers who sign up to 4G with Vodafone will be able to enjoy Netflix for 6 months and Sky Sports Mobile or Spotify Premium at no extra cost. As well as the bundled entertainment options, Vodafone will offer unlimited 4G data for the first three months.

UK mobile operators reject government plans on national roaming

Mobile operators in the UK have rejected government proposals on setting up national roaming, according to the Financial Times. Earlier this year, operators were urged by officials to look into the possibility of sharing infrastructure in rural parts of the country, as well as locations where consumers seemingly loose signal coverage. While this would help prevent customers experiencing drop outs in connectivity, mobile operators didn't believe the plans to be viable.

Canadian service provider Rogers has struck up an exclusive agreement with multinational giant Vodafone for 4G roaming. Whether or not that means LTE or HSPA+ is anybody's guess. Vodafone's latest price hike could see UK bills increased by 10 percent

Vodafone as announced price rises for the UK market, which could see monthly bills go up by as much as 10 percent. While contracts themselves will not be altered, the mobile operator will be increasing the amount charged on use above customer allowances. The company will calculate how much bills will be increased using a three month profile of each customer's bill. Should consumers be disappointed with the increase, they can leave the operator without charge.
