Animagic iPads take over Apple Retail

Apple Retail often puts up clever, imaginative displays to show off their products, and this "animagic" iPad display is one of the cleverest and most imaginative yet. It features five iPad Air 2 tablets, each with a distinctively colored Smart Cover — blue, green, pink, red, and yellow — that open and close all on their own. The mystery of how their do it is intriguing, as are the glimpses of apps shown running when they do. They highlight all the creativity that's available to you at the touch of a finger.

Next time you're at Apple Retail, check them out. And if you have any ideas on how Apple is doing it — no wires or moving magnets were easily visible — let me know!

  • Either there are mechanically moving magnets in the base on which they sit, or perhaps Tim Cook made a deal with Satan (which would explain a lot).
  • ...or perhaps Tim Cook IS Satan? Tim has 3 letters.
    3x2 (2 from iPad Air 2) = 6 [6][_][_] Cook has 4 letters.
    4/2 (2 from iPad Air 2) = 2
2x3 (3 from Tim) = 6 [6][6][_] Tim Cook born in 1960? THERE'S THE LAST 6. [6][6][6] Tim Cook is, as demonstrated above, the beast mentioned in Revelations. Wake up people! The Illuminati is here! /s Posted from my TARDIS!

  • Apple store at West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton had the display and I thought I saw some clear string or something attached to the cover at the bottom. I may be wrong though.
  • The iPad is automagically boring. Apple better bring it with the iPad Pro, because I sold my iPad Air and am waiting for something worth spending $800 on. The current iPad Air II is extremely uninteresting. Give me split screen apps!
  • You could save your $800 for the rumored 12" rMBA.

  • I like iOS 8, I just want split screen apps. I don't want a trackpad I want multitouch.

  • $800 is a Surface Pro 3, that's a full freaking computer for the price this guy claims was spent on a iPad Air. So yes, maybe he should complain he didn't get his monies worth. And then maybe he should expect all that much for what is first and formost a media consumption device. Posted from the amazing whatever device I can afford because I'm a broke college kid.
  • What, Apple is turning into IKEA now with there behind glass demo/tests?! If that's the case, then expect great naming schemes going forward!
  • I saw these a few days ago at an Apple Store. There were things connecting the smart covers to the inside of the table.
  • If Apple added split screen apps, then they would kill a good 60% of android tablets.
  • +1 All that screen real estate and nothing to do with it. Posted from my TARDIS!
  • The Air 2 is a great product. Thin and attractive (Gold) with plenty of memory at 64GB. Complements my iPhone 6+ (Gold).
