And there are several ways for you to send pics or vids with WhatsApp as you go about your day, whether you're globetrotting around the world or just sharing an adorable picture of your cat with a friend in Japan.

How to share photos and videos with WhatsApp for iPhone

WhatsApp offers a robust number of options for sending photos and videos straight from within the app. Without leaving the app, you can take multiple photos, do some quick edits, and send them off to your friend.

How to take and share a photo with WhatsApp for iPhone

  1. Launch WhatsApp from the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Chats tab on the bottom menu.
  3. Tap an existing conversation.
  4. Tap the Camera button to the right of the text field. This launches the built-in camera function. (You may first have to give WhatsApp camera permissions).

    Tap on an active chat, tap the Camera button, tap OK to allow WhatsApp access to the camera.

  5. Tap the shutter button when you're ready to take a picture.

  6. Tap the shutter button again to take another photo.
  7. Tap Done when you're done shooting.

    Tap the shutter button to take a picture, Tap again to take more than one photo, tap done.

  8. You can make edits to your photos within the app by tapping the Rotate and Crop icons, or delete the photo by tapping the Trash Can icon

  9. Tap Tap to add a caption… to add a photo caption. Imagine that!
  10. Tap Send when you're done editing and ready to send the photo.

    Use the top row of buttons to make edits, tap to add a caption, tap send.

How to record and share a video with WhatsApp for iPhone

If a picture is worth a thousand words, say more by sending a video.

Using WhatsApp, you can send a quick video to a group chat to capture an epic moment among friends or share quick video messages to a far-off friend in an instant. As well as recording live video from within the app, you can also share videos stored in your camera roll.

  1. Launch WhatsApp from the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Chats tab on the bottom menu.
  3. Tap an existing conversation.
  4. Tap the Camera button. This launches the built-in camera function.

    Tap an active chat, tap the Camera button, tap and hold the shutter button to start taking a video.

  5. Set up your camera.

    • Tap the Camera Switch button to toggle between the rear- and front-facing cameras.
    • Tap the flash button to toggle through the flash options. It's set on automatic by default.
  6. Hold the record button to start recording video.

    Tap the Flash button to toggle the camera flash, Tap the Camera Switch button to switch between the front- and back-facing cameras,  tap and hold the record button.

  7. To stop recording, release the record button.

    Note: If you want to cancel and discard an in-progress recording, drag your finger away from the record button. When the screen turns red, lift your finger you discard the recording.

  8. Tap and hold the record button again if you want to capture another video. The number of pending videos will be listed as a number on the record button.

  9. Tap Done when you're done shooting video.

    Release the shutter button to stop recording, Tap done. Then you need edits.

  10. Next, you can make edits to your videos from within the app by tapping the Rotate and Crop icons, edit the duration of the video with the Timeline Editor or delete the photo by tapping the Trash Can icon.

  11. Tap Tap to add a caption… to add a caption to your video. Imagine that!
  12. Tap Send when you're done editing and ready to send the video.

    Use the top buttons and timeline editor to edit the video, tap to add a caption and then tap send.

How to share a photo or video from your gallery to WhatsApp on iPhone

If you've got an image or video saved to your photo gallery, you're able to view and send it to a WhatsApp contact all within the app itself.

  1. Tap on the chat conversation you want to send a photo.
  2. Tap the Share Media button. It's the up-arrow in a circle right next to the text field.
  3. Tap Photo/Video Library. This will launch your Camera Roll.

    Tap the Share Media button, tap Photo/Video Library, then tap the photo or video you want to send.

  4. Tap the photo/video you want to add.

  5. Make any edits to the photo/video or add a caption.
  6. Tap the Add another photo/video button if you wish to send more than one photo/video from your camera roll at one time. It's the "+" next to the thumbnails at the bottom.
  7. Tap Send when you're ready.

    Tap the Add another photo/video button to add another photo or video, then tap send.

How to send a contact with WhatsApp for iPhone

No worries, just get your buddy to share their friend's contact info through WhatsApp and you'll get all their info in one shot without having to manually enter phone numbers or email addresses. Ain't nobody got time for that!

  1. Tap the share media button. It's the up-arrow in a circle right next to the text field.
  2. Tap Share Contact. This brings up your contacts.
  3. Tap the contact you wish to share.

    Tap the Share Media button, tap Share Contact, then tap the contact you want to share.

  4. On the contact information page, Tap to check on or off the contact details you wish to send.

  5. Tap send when you're ready to share the contact.

    Tap the buttons next to the contact information to toggle what contact information to share, then tap send.

How to share a location with WhatsApp for iPhone

Struggling to find your friends at a festival or send is such a 20th century problem. These days, smartphones will track your every move through location services, so why not have those services work for you when you can share your location with friends. No more trying to describe your surroundings, just let your friends know exactly where you are!

  1. Tap the share media button. It's the up-arrow in a circle right next to the text field.
  2. Tap Share Location.
  3. Tap Settings if you haven't turned location services on for WhatsApp.

    Tap the Share Media button, tap Share Location, then make sure you have location services turned on for WhatsApp.

    • Tap Send your location to send a map to your contact with your location pinned.
    • Tap a nearby business or location to send a nearby address.
    • Tap the Search Bar and search for a location. Relevant results will populate below.

      Tap Send Your Location to send your current location, tap a nearby location in the automatically generated list, or use the search bar at the top and then tap the location on the list.

Turning on locations services for WhatsApp

If you've got location services turned off for WhatsApp and you get the message telling you to activate it, tap Settings which will bring you straight into the WhatsApp settings menu.

  1. Tap Location. It should be set to 'Never'.
  2. Tap While Using The App.
  3. Tap Back to WhatsApp on the Status Bar to go straight back into WhatsApp

    In the WhatsApp settings, tap on Location, then tap on While Using the App to turn on location services, then tap WhatsApp to go back to the app.

Once Location Services is turned on, you have three ways to find and/or send your location through WhatsApp.
