Portal, Pushbullet's file transfer app, arrives on iPhone and iPad

Portal (opens in new tab) is a new file transfer app for the iPhone and iPad from the team behind Pushbullet. While Pushbullet lets you transfer files between your computer and phone, Portal is dedicated to this task, acting like a third-party version of AirDrop. Files and folders can be transferred when your computer and mobile devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Here's what you can expect from Portal:

  • Transfer individual files, multiple files, or entire folders at once
  • Easily browse, open, or share the files you've put on your phone
  • Use your files in your other apps with our Document Provider Extension
  • Pictures transferred with Portal are automatically saved into your gallery

You can grab Portal from the App Store now.

  • So this pushes the file by wifi and doesn't involve their servers. My big problem with pushbullet is their access to anything you "push" going through their servers including text notifications, etc.
  • I've been using Instashare for a while now, works well between all iOS devices & Macs and is secure, files never leave local WiFi network. Sent from the iMore App
  • What advantage does this have over simply using Airdrop? Sent from the iMore App
