UPDATED: AT&T Service Outage in Your Area?
UPDATE: Looks like neither Skynet’s first strike nor a Cylon invasion were to blame, but a power failure in Michigan. AT&T has put out a press release (via Chicago Breaking News — Thanks Jeremy!). Here’s hoping everyone gets their ubiquitous connectivity back ASAP.
Both Jeremy (Chicago) and Dieter (MN) seem to be having no-joy with their AT&T service today. (I’m on Rogers, so aside from poverty, I’m fine thanks!)
How’s it holding up in your area? Loud and clear, or data fail?

Doesn’t work in Chicago for me. Keeps saying my service has been disconnected when I call of others call my phone. AT&T=unreliable.
full service in fernandina beach fl but i will say i used to get 3g service and for a few months no 3g
My AT&T is fine here in Detroit.
I’ve been without service for over 3 hours in the Metro Detroit area.
Chicago is OUT… I’ve never had another carrier have such a large outage. Maybe I have been lucky.
so what’s up with this ‘superb service’ ? no signal at all near o’hare…… what a pain today. anyone know why?
AT&T is very reliable in Texas, but they are headquartered in Dallas.
Louisville KY is working…there is also a Level 3 (internet fiber optic backbone) outage on the east coast, possibly related?
Just left AT&T store outside Chicago. Wife’s Iphone works, my Bold does not. They said its outage but does not impact everyone… Also, this extends to East Coast, they say.
Works ok in SF bay area.
In Detroit cannot receive calls or text message’s but can send both.
In Chicago, my 3G iPhone is dead in the water. Says “No Service” my partner’s 1st gen iPhone works fine though…. argh
AT&T cell phones have been out in Chicago area for past three hours. Our DSL with AT&T is also downl; landline service has been sketchy for the past week.

No service in Chicago for last 2 hours. Phone suddenly started working again 15 min ago. Made one phone call and then lost service again.

AT&T has issues with 3G in the Detroit area. Try turning it off. Mine works fine.
No Service here in Detroit area. I went to the AT&T store and they have signs up noting a major network outage. There were drones of people going in I’m sure because of the outage.
I’m in Houston, and service is fine here for both my iPhone 3G and my wife’s BB Curve, but I was having big troubles when I was in San Antonio on Tuesday.

My family has at&t cell service here in Detroit and the lines are still down. They cannot make, recieve or text anyone on the network. This is terrible.
I’m in Ypsilanti, MI, ATT said the outage is random. My husbands phone works fine and I am out of service on the same account. They gave me a $10.00 credit but can’t tell me when service will be back. They say it’s only been a coupld of hours in Michigan but I have had no service for longer than that. NEVER had this problem with Cingular in same area.
I’m in Port Huron Mi, and my service has been out all day. Rogers picks it up, since I live on the boarder, but havnet been able to do much with it…
Everyone should just flood AT&T with emails….. this is not cool.
I just called a friend this very minute. I got through fine. She said everyone is telling her they’re trying to call her and can’t get through. So, I guess her and I are the only Detroit area people with service?

I can not call or text anyone. All morning it has been like this. Why aren’t they fixing this problem? I actually planned on buying the iphone today (I have the shine now) But i can’t get ahold of the authorized user because we have no service. I’m very dissatisfied.
“No Service” here in Michigan (Detroit area). Has been like this most of the day. I’m visiting from Florida where it’s usually reliable. Any word on when this is resolved? I’m demanding some money back for this expensive “No Service” crap.

No service in west Knoxville area at 3:00, it was working fine in Atlanta earlier today. Two 3G iPhones, neither have server, two other ATT phones, no problem. ATT service phone calls keep cutting me off!!!

In Omaha – I cam text and calls are fine but no Internet or data connections. Ridiculous

3G iPhone, running on Edge locally, Port Huron, MI, Service has been out since 11am EST Time, its 4:10p, still no service. Guess this is one reason to keep paying for the classic landline.

Six states wide outage. They will take 1-2 days to fix it. Call and get your service prorated at the least. But call volume is out of control today so wait. She said some people are having luck if they take their sim card out and reset.
I called the AT&T store (Chicago), they said they are having a nationwide outage…that was as of 2:45. My signal just returned.
Can’t reach my boyfriend on his iPhone in Metro Detroit. Message says “Due to local telephone company trouble in the area you are calling, your call cannot be completed at this time.”
I have 3G in Seattle and Washington DC today, but nowhere have I been able to connect to “attwifi” keeps giving me an error with a phone #.
Got nothin’ in Detroit area. No bars, busy signal when you call the phones. Ack.
In flint michigan there has been no att wireless service for 6 hours. Says “no network coverage”. last night and today we have had extremely high winds.

In Metro Detroit area, and I haven’t had a connection since ~10:00am. I called AT&T and they said the outage is down to Michigan and Indiana.

3G in Ann Arbor works perfectly for me… But my sister’s original iPhone has the wrong time showing and no bars. Just tried calling it from landline (Vonage) and after ringing twice, there was a long delay and then a prolonged screech.
No AT&T service north of Chicago, either. I get full set of bars to no avail: can’t make any phone calls. Then, the full set goes to no bars. Both my N96 and some crappy old Samsung do not work.
Detroit still out at 4:34pm. Was able to connect to Rogers in Canada for a bit, so then I knew for sure it was something with AT&T.
no service into or out of chicago at 330 pm on sunday dec 27 2008 customer service closed on the weekends. nice job att!! dont you think you could put a recorded message of explanation on the 866 801 3600 number or is that just too high tech for you nitwits.
In metro detroit. I can’t make any phone calls but can send texts. btw…don’t have an iPhone, have the Tilt. Our land line seems to be in and out too. So it’s not just the 3G network. My mom was able to get a signal in Lansing and was able to call me here in Det…however I still can’t call anyone. This sucks!!!
My iPhone 3G keeps reading “No Service” even after multiple restarts…you can Los Angeles to the list of outage cities
I’m in the Detroit area and I’ve had no service since around 10:30 am. My signal returned at about 1:11 pm, however it only stayed up for about 5 minutes!!! I haven’t been able to do a thing since! This is completely ridiculous, my BB is like my third arm!! I’m lost without it
No service in Troy, MI as of 10:30am today. What is at&t doing to fix this because the store employees shrugged their shoulders when I asked when it would be fixed by?

I have not a service for an hour and a half. It is very frustrating. everytime I try to call someone it says busy! I called customer service and all I can do is wait! They said that I could call back after it was up and they would give me a credit for being without service. Of course they would otherwise I would switch to another company!! I hope they fix the problem soon because I would like to use my phone!!

I’m in San Francisco. It was working at 1:25ish (pacfic time) and then at about 1:30 it stopped working. I have the iPhone 3g. I turned of 3g, restarted and it worked again for a phone call. Then I turned on 3g and it isn’t showing service again. Still have “no service” Lame
No service all day in Detroit. Could not get through via e-mail or 800 #. Called local store – rep said service is down and doesn’t know when it will be restored.

people laugh at the Verizon commercials with those geeky network guys in the background… well now I dread the fact that I left Verizon. All because of a freakin iPhone. This is absurd. I should be able to run any phone on any network. Im quitting att & gonna sell my iPhone on eBay and then get a blackberry! Verizon truly is the best network & now I can say I’ve tried ‘em all!!!
Does anyone at AT&T know what is causing this? Kind of frustrating when a cell phone is the only phone at home!
I’m in Ann Arbor, MI, and I still don’t have any service on my iPhone 3G. My parents have “normal” cell phones in Farmington Hills, but they do not have service either.

my tmobile blackberry has never dropped a call or gone out of service in 4 years. AT&T goes down a few times per month. just hope it doesnt happen to you in an emergency and its no big deal.

my sister’s 1st gen in Ann Arbor is doing the same exact thing, but my 3G works fine (in the same apartment).

“No Service” in Milwaukee. I also received a voicemail message which was actually a partial recording of someone (unknown to me) talking to their mother. Strange.
There was a major outage earlier today at Level3′s Detroit location. AT&T must have been reliant on their fiber connectivity.

It seems like the location of the originating area code matters more than the physical location of the phone itself. Everyone I know with AT&T numbers originating from the Great Lakes area has no service, but various people with numbers registered in other areas seems to be working. It must be a problem with AT&T’s internal data connections or some such thing rather than physical damage to the towers themselves. Maybe a data center flooded today?
No AT&T Cellphone service in Wyandotte, Michigan (12 mi. out of Detroit) – Frustrating. Here I was making a good argument towards NOT having a landline (just cellphones) and now my wife is going to want the $80 per month landline for these types of emergencies… Darn it… this outage is going to cost me $80 x 12 = nearly $1000 a year!

At about 9:30 a.m. CST on Dec. 28, a power failure impacted an AT&T facility in Bloomfield, MI. This situation has resulted in intermittent disruption of mobile services for customers in some Midwest states. Backup power has subsequently been restored, and AT&T technicians currently are working to fully restore the impacted equipment. We will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.

No service since early this morning in Flint, MI…would someone please call ATT and tell them that they aren’t supposed to turn off the service until AFTER the last person leaves Michigan.
I’ve never had this happen in Chicago the past year and a half I’ve been with AT&T. But this is still crazy. I can now make calls and send SMS message. No data though.

No cell service in Madison, WI since about 3pm. When you call an AT&T cell number, if your lucky, you get the gal saying “Due to network difficulties, your call can not be connected at this time”. More likely is a fast busy signal or the generic recording saying the wireless user is unavailable.
Our home phone (AT&T) and cable (via Dish Network) is working fine.
Nice job AT&T….all I’m hearing from the in-laws is how great US Cellular.
This sucks, I’m vacationing in California and have been unable to use my phone for at least 4 hours now.
I am in Chicago and still have no data or phone. Had phone for a bit, but now out once again.
This sucks! My brother switched from at&t to t-mobile and doesn’t have any of the problems I still have. I thought this was a metropolitan city with advanced technology!! I think i’m gonna take my business elsewhere!!
