i have used a touch screen phone before. Its wasn’t the iphone (the LG Dare, but after the drama with the touch screen i went to the bb and the ONLY thing i miss about my dare was the camera. The lag on the keyboard is not missed at all

to me the iphone is a no brainer, i’d take that anyday. but for my girlfriend she likes smaller phones, so went with the tour. qwerty is good, she likes the feel of it. and facebook and email are great to use on it as well. i think she bought it at gsmallover.com and she loves it. i’ll stick with my iphone but for blackberry I think it’s the choice to go with.

I have to go one further here to challenge anyone using the iphony toy to try typing without the “head down eye squinting” necessary to type three lines in one minute. I can type two 160 character SMS’s on my TOUR without even looking at the screen.

This comparison is obviously biased towards the iphony.

The Tour is a much better, much easier to use phone than the one compared.

In fact I will go as far as to say the iphone is a loser phone, as is all Apple products.

Others have nailed it. BES is the reason companies love BBs. Security, access to the enterprise, and network reliability are the top priorities for most large businesses and iPhone doesn’t cut it there. On the other hand, having just “upgraded” from a Palm Centro, I think the BB as a device leaves a lot to be desired. In many ways it feels outdated even compared to Palm OS, which is itself outdated.

I have a Blackberry Tour and I totally love it. Web browsing is super fast and the camera is awesome. Most of my friends have the iphone but when it comes to making a phone call from anywhere or even being able to use the wi-fi, it usually comes down to “Claudia, can I use your phone for a second?” If iphone were really that great, they would never have to ask me.

I had an iphone and now i have a tour…i like da tour better bc you can do a lot of crap at once. da apps r similar and u can download an app for da tour 2 make it look like an iphone if u want..da best part of da bb is da bbm its da best..iphone dont have dat and i like a real keyboard instead of touch..den da tour has ubertwitter and a better facebook app..der is really nothin exclusive about an iphone anymore

I wish I could capture how Apple has managed to continually offer flashy, mediocre products and retain a fanboy following that would rival a cult. Anyone who believes the iPhone is good in the business world has never used it in the business world, and with at&t’s poor network and the device’s pathetic battery life, the device isn’t reliable enough for my business, not even mentioning security or BES, which is amazing. Take a look at what you’re getting, guys. iPhone people eat bad cake for the sweet frosting. BB people don’t care as much about frosting, they just want a great piece of cake, and they care about feeding their family with the cake, too. As for me, as the sex bubble for touch screens on smartphones becomes commodity, I’ll be sitting with my BB Tour making money off of all of you frosting lovers.

Even though the BB is more like a brick, it is tough and durable and the keys are alot easier to navigate then the curve or storm. And Verizon is the best provider of service in our area – AT & T is the worst here — I’m planning on upgrading to the tour since my older BB didn’t have a camera -

I agree, the gap is narrowing and thus it really depends on your goals. Flexibility vs workflow. PC vs Mac. I don’t see one system winning the entire market anytime soon. Had iPhone gone out to multiple carriers, we might have seen a different competitve landscape today. The iPhone is held hostage by AT&T… won’t allow Google Voice.

The BB vs iPhone for business argument is much more dependent on what company you work for and their network settings than anything else. I work at a big name tech company and our IT is still not satisfied with the security flaws in the iPhone OS. As such, if I want to use it with our internal network, it requires a lot of manual work with a token to connect to our mail servers via VPN to ensure privacy on par with what BB offers. I am up for a phone refresh this week and was really hoping I could justify an iPhone, but it simply can’t offer the seamless integration with a lot of our business applications that I need.

We all like the sleek form factor of the iPhone. It’s great for many things but the thorn in my side is that battery. Why must you turn things off to get through the day. It’s the worst in order to have a decent day you have to turn off 3g push notificstions. Wifi Bluetooth. How about you just turn the device off after you do what you need to do. Then turn it back on when you need to do somethig else. This really sucks about the iPhone I’m sorry. I wanted the 3gs but it’s still the same battery. I would really like it to have more battery life on the next one or it’s another device I go.

ahh yes, the verizon app store, which you can circumvent with OTA installs or via Application Loader. Provided Application Loader actually lets you install software...

Unless verizon REALLY crippled the device, which I guess is possible.

Agree with Kevin McD, however, the solution to iphone’s battery running down I suppose is Juicepak(sp)/extended battery. Having said that, I agree that the BlackBerry is a better business device. I myself have both an iphone 3G and a BB 8900 for this very reason.

Here is the bottom line. Its a matter of personal choice. I have used both BB and iphone. The iphone is an outstanding device however my one issue with it is the battery life. I was away for three days on business last week. I left the house with my iphone on full charge. Brightness was very low, no 3G although I did have location services and push email enabled. I have a mobile me account and was expecting emails that I needed to respond to..

I sent some txt, a spot of wifi browsing at the venue and some short phone calls. My battery lasted until 3pm that day. Minimal use...lasted seven hours. Im running the latest firmware, I have nothing enabled that should cause this issue other that location services and push email. Push email is crippling the battery life. I don't see the point in having a device like this when I have to disable everything just to get through the day!! took my BB bold the next day...totally different story. Browsing, banging out the emails, phone calls, just different class. The iphone is a great device but when it comes to email and messaging I don't see how the BB can be beaten.

the iphone is a fantastic device in some many other ways, its just that when I needed it, it didn't perform where as the BB did...

I’m free of contract and read this blog looking for insight. A mac user since ’85 and a Verizon customer since they bought my local phone company. Honestly the choice for me is not about the device, it’s more about the provider. I switched to Cingular for the Razor but with all my family and friends on VZW I had to up my minutes. It costs me so much more to pay AT&T. Otherwise the choice is simple. iPhone no question. Choosing a VZW phone is always settling on 2nd best because they greedily cripple cool features. (remember OBEX) Anyway, buying within moments, that no WiFi is rough… but is it worse than $50 more every month for AT&T? I want an iPhone.

How would a business person benefit from using an iphone over a blackberry at all? None whatsoever, because when security and efficiency are the main concern none are better than RIMs offering. If you can name something better than BES that the iPhone has for enterprise im all for it...probably why no government agency or major financial institution has switched yet eh?

Also, whats this im reading about Verizon selling 275k+ of these on their first day? Wonder if the other carriers are having such success? (Answer Yes-read some disgruntled sprint users stories)

@Truth: text entry i'll give it to you (cause it's a matter of personal preference) but the business app part is not true. the iPhone can make any app run better compared to a blackberry, now background apps is another story though. The business people who are sticking to blackberry would be better off with the Pre or the iPhone too, so blackberry will really lose in the long term if these are the phone their gonna keep bringing out.

So your arguments to the BB being a better business device than the iPhone are really weak.

No BB will ever out sell or out perform the iPhone. I just came from a bold and a storm and both fall easily to the iPhone. I was actually an iPhone hater and once I got rid of the pathetic excuse for a phone storm, and got the iPhone I realized how great of a device it is and how pitiful of a device the BB’s are.

Verizon is the one who doesn't want wifi, not BB. And no you don't have to use Verizon's app store, they just don't pre load BB's on their branded phones.

I'm not going to bother arguing why most corporation's use Blackberry, but with no BES support or RELEASED tethering it is a no go for most people in the corporate world.

This is a smaller bold form factor using the storm’s OS. As sting7k said there’s no Wifi and if you want Apps you have to get them through Verizon’s store, not RIM’s. You’d think that at some point RIM would offer a keyboard and a touch screen on the same device but nothing on the horizon. Unless the new storm kills these guys are a rotary phone in a touch tone world.
