I own both TomTom and IGo. I paid full price for both. I just used both extensively when travelling in rental car on business in Florida. I use 3GS Iphone (32G) and it is not jailbroken. IGo locked up several times on start up. It also loads VERY slowly on startup. Its collection of resturant POIs was not very good (as compared to what I could find on Yelp, AroundMe, LocalEats, UrbanSpoon and TomTom). In contrast, TomTom worked great. It loaded fast and acquired GPS fast. The voice instructions did not name streets but that convenience is nice, but has never been a must-own for me, especially on an app I use only when travelling on business and renting cars. The voice directions were timely, the routes perfect, the visual excellent. The interface is simple and fast too use. It drained my battery quickly, as these apps do, but not as quickly as Igo. I have only used these two apps, both of which are expensive, but I can presently only recommend TomTom. I would never buy its mount accessory kit, but Amazon has numerous $15 window mounts that will hold an iphone in landscape against a rental car window, and I ordered one today.

Why are you reviewing with a jailbreak iPhone?

To provide an accurate review, you should probably be using a "standard" iPhone with the lastest OS.

TomTom was the BIGGEST waste of money I've spent in the iPhone store. I could have bought $100 worth of fart apps and gotten more for my money. No text-to-speech; poor GPS locking; can't keep up with where it's at at any given moment; the maps are choppy and blocky looking compared to those like Navigon and Co-Pilot. I highly suggest waiting until some major updates are released.

Very disappointed in this app and a GREAT reason we should have demos.

I have not reviewed, or even seen, TomTom. I asked for a promo code and got the (polite) brush off. Or more accurately “we will see what we can do”.

Of the apps I have reviewed, I would rank them in terms of personal preference as follows: Navigon Mobile Navigator, Co-Pilot Live, Sygic MobileMaps, iGo My Way, Gokivo, and AT&T Navigator (reviews of two more are coming shortly). But is due to personal preference (not liking the monthly billings, enjoying the interface, perceived ease of use, etc) than anything else. Ultimately, most of these apps are very similar to each other, offering very similar features. I didn’t really experience many bugs or glitches (other than iGo) so I can’t address the fact that you are being booted out of CoPilot – it never happened to me.

Part 2: the route recalculation is very fast, there is a nice one-touch quick-menu and the smart keyboard is nice. The cons are no qwerty keyboard, long start-up times, lack of route settings, no contact access (though I feel this doesn’t work in any other GPS app very well, including Navigon) and no iPod support. Even then the app has a beautiful feel to it and it is capable of being the best. Just had to rant about this one, even though I don’t have it.

Part 1: I personally find this as the best navigation app available on the AppStore after having comparing my Navigon with iGo on my friend’s iPhone. The graphics are extremely good-looking, the navigation is very accurate (iGo seems to have u stick to it’s own route unless it’s sure you’ve taken another one, therefore it doesn’t wander off), the lane assist is well done (not a big solid picture of a lane lin Navigon),
