CrackBerry.com celebrates its 3rd birthday this week… and all they get is a BlackBerry Slider?!

First, we’d like to wish our sibling site, and best frenemy forever, CrackBerry.com and their fearless leader, CrackBerry Kevin a very happy 3rd birthday! They’re the #1 site for BlackBerry users… and abusers! for a reason, and they’re giving away a TON of free stuff to celebrate. If you have a BlackBerry in your other pocket, or know someone who rocks the pushy keyboard, get on over there and win you some stuff!

Now what do you get for the CrackBerry fanatic that has everything? How about leaks of a new BlackBerry slider that was once-upon-a-chuckle code-named “Mr. T”. Far as we can tell, it’s not anywhere close to what anyone would call sexy, but it does show how far RIM will go to try and get the full, touch screen but keep the physical keyboard.

It should ship with BlackBerry OS 6.0, which should include their new WebKit browser (as in the rendering engine behind iPhone Safari, as well as Google Android and Palm webOs).

Anyone wish Apple was making an iPhone slider, or are we thinking mainstream adoption of some 50,000 units shows the era of physical keyboards is over?

Hardly an innovation. I wonder if their convoluted OS got an update.

  2. fastlane says:

    What year is it?

  3. The Reptile says:

Slider. Named Mr. T. Well, someone’s got to say it:

I pity the fool that buys one of these butt ugly Blackberry devices.

  4. Ok, I’m a die-hard Apple fan, loving their stuff since my first, and still my current only Mac. But the latest stuff? I’m sorry, but Microsoft is actually starting to sort of rebecome who Apple SHOULD have been this year. The Courier? Everything the iPad should have been. Windows 7 Phone Series? I might drop my iPhone if the 2010 iPhone doesn’t match up to it; And with the underwhelmingness of the iPad, I think Apple’s taking a downward direction lately. Calling iPad a ‘magical, revolutionary, innovative’ device is like saying that everything Vista copied from OSX was a brand new, never-been-done-before innovation; It’s a big iPod. If Apple doesn’t spruce it up, make the OS dramatically better, and the hardware for BOTH iPad and iPhone, I think I’m going a different direction from iPhone. Likely Android. However, I gotta throw some nice words to the Blackberry guys: This looks like a really good phone, changing from the constantly boring same Blackberry style. The guy above said exactly contrary to what I think. It looks like a pretty good phone to me.

The Courier is vaporware you twerp.

  6. I didn't say it. says:

    What a bunch of haters…

Seems like blackberry is trying to cover all the form factors. I wouldn’t mind “trying” out a slider BB. The top row of the keyboard isn’t too close to the bottom edge of the screen, which is good. I’m not sure if I like the size of the phone though. It’s different….

  7. frog says:

That thing is horrible! As for 6.0, aren’t they still trying to get 5.0 out to many devices?

  8. jabawocky says:

@fastlane, Apparently 2007. Just look at the iphone

  9. iPhoneAnt says:

Wow nice but Sliders are old already…Touch sceen is The new Look…

  10. apple king says:

and rimm rips off the almighty palm whats next rimm sidekick style crackberries.. there os is pure trash still stuck in 2006 era

  11. kev says:

You guys are too much. If it resembled the iPhone you’d be screaming “BLOODY MURDER” and “SUE THEM”, but since it’s different you’re all saying “What a POS”

  12. Axial Helix says:

And the iPhone os is still stuck in 2007. Hell you have to jailbreak it just to have keep up with the stuff android is pushing out these days.

  13. icebike says:

    @kev:

You nailed it. The only way these children would be happy if if Rim committed suicide. But till then we get to hear all the whiny Hate for keyboards all over again, like we haven’t heard it all before.

  14. Mystic says:

Only one whiner here, icebike. ^^^^^^

  15. Valace2 says:

Hi all new to the blog. Have to say as a hardcore Iphone loathing Blackberry fanboi :) , you are correct that slider is Fugly. I am a Storm user and like someone above stated touchscreen are the future, but unfortunatly as much as I hate them I think slide out keyboard touchscreens are the future. RIM had to make an exception for the Storm because of its touch nature, but they had to have there own thing with the Surepress. Any slider they would start out with would have to be a Pre style so they could keep their signature keyboard.

but enough of that yea that Slider is really fugly, an oh yea the Iphone sucks ;) .

  16. sti says:

Apple is not the future here. Blackberry and Google phones all the way.

  17. Wyatt says:

Okay, I’m not a big fan of the BB OS even though some of their devices do look nice, but this one is outright fugly. RIM is taking us back to 2005 and the era of sliders running Windows Mobile 2003SE like the Samsung i730 Pocket PC. RIM is still trying to hold on to an outdated OS by finally caving in to consumers over the past 2 years who want a real smartphone; not just a glorified pager OS and creating holdover devices like this. If this is how RIM is starting off 2010 then they have an even longer road ahead of them in 2010 unless they truly revamp the BB OS which I doubt will happen soon.
