iPad 2, iPhone 5 to have a dual-core PowerVR SGX543 GPU to drive Retina Display?

So iPad 2, iPhone 5 will also have a dual-core PowerVR SGX543 GPU to drive that Retina Display?

Citing sources, AppleInsider claims Apple is not only going dual-core for their rumored iPad 2 and iPhone 5-bound Apple A5 chipset's CPU, but also its PowerVR GPU as well.

the company will not only be upgrading its video core, but also going to multiple cores, a feature that is designed into the SGX543 design. The most likely configuration of Apple's next custom chip is reportedly the SGX543MP2, which pairs two SGX543 cores to work as one, offering around four times the capability of the previous A4 in graphics and video tasks.

The SGX543 core is designed to parallel as many as 16 cores together, in a way that is transparent to higher level software, meaning that apps don't have to be rewritten specifically to benefit from the new speed boost. Imagination supplies intelligent core management that automatically determines the number of cores available and accelerates the graphic tasks by distributing them across the available cores.

Hey, all that power certainly would come in handy if iPad 2 really does have a 2048x1536 Retina Display...

The really big news of this, it's all this power will mantein the same, or more!, battery duration.

  2. Silicius says:

    Sorry, maintain

  3. Shrike says:

Bring it on Apple. I need that dual-core A9, SGX543MP2 iPhone 5. Oh, and 1 GB of RAM while you're at too.

  4. Wes, the party pooper says:

sorry shrike, no way is Apple going to have all the hot tech goodness in the ipad 2. this is apple, they rely on hype, marketing, brand name, etc over tech specs, and it works because no one outside of people who read these blogs understand or care. you can bet they're gonna boost the performance though (duh) and safe bet is 512 mb of RAM. really should have 1 gig though because ram is dirt cheap nowadays

    • Shrike says:

What are you talking about? The iPhone (and iPod touch and iPad) are at generational performance parity with the competition give or take 3 to 6 months. Some features lead, some features lag. Such is business.

    • iPhoneMilk says:

you're kidding right? Which phone had 512 mb of ram internal first? the iPhone 4.

  5. Ronn says:

Damn. What was the topic. Oh yeah. That's great that my phone will have more power than my CPU. I'm satisfied with the ipad right now so the ipad2 will blow me away.

  6. BL says:

The iPhone 5 needs to have a 4 inch or bigger display this time with 64gb storage otherwise I'm jumping ship to a Samsung infuse with it's 4.5 inch super amoled display 1080p video and yes 64gb option.

    • Drdoom420 says:

I agree they need a bigger screen I think a 4in would be great but I don't see this happening because of the retna display. Not saying they can't do it I just think they'll choose not to, I would love a 4.3-4.5in screen my god that would be one sexy ass iPhone.

      • iPhoneMilk says:

I don't think it's going to happen either because literally everything would have to be changed around. Maybe for a 6th gen or something with a new iOS version.

    • Dionte says:

Last night I was playing with my friends captivate, the bigger screen and moving background made me so envious. It was fast too.

I'm not keen on catering to iPhone specifically but wouldn't mind a generic "mobile" version of my blog to be available.
