iPhone 5 release pool: Reuters says September

Reuters claim three people familiar with the matter have confirmed that production of the iPhone 5 will start in July this year, with the launch to follow in September.

Apple Inc suppliers will begin production of its next-generation iPhone in July this year, with the finished product likely to begin shipping in September, three people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Reuters also go on to say that the iPhone 5 will have a faster processor; according to one of the three people, but it will look largely similar to the current iPhone 4. Obviously the three people declined to be identified due to the plans not being public information.

Just as obviously, Reuters is now entered in our iPhone 5 release pool.

Want to find an iPad 2 in stock? FindOne is an app for that!
  1. Silicius says:

Maybe Apple wants us to believe that. Then, the "one more thing" of this year, unlike the previous, will be amazing. Sorry my english...

  2. Bushido says:

Sounds realistic. Was very doubtful that Apple would not release anything this year but was doubtful they would release anything groundbreaking. iPhone 4 had a new design so a bit of tweaking and speed bump ala 3G -> 3GS was what was to be expected. I'll wait till a new design for iPhone 6 before I consider switching and by then, my contract would be up and I will go "commitment free" route and just buy directly from Apple Store. http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTAyNTQzMjI

    • Shrike says:

A big change in the chips (3GS) is bigger change than a change in the case (3G)!

You will never see the level of performance increase from the 3G to 3GS ever again. Never.

      • Dood says:

You seem to be unjustly confident about a future that hasn't been written yet. Tell me, am I mistaken that you were also one of the posters that predicted the iPad 2 wouldn't be released this winter, and would also be nothing short of a "spec bump" as opposed to it's complete redesign?

        • Shrike says:

You're mistaken. I've never made such a prediction and I've always gone against the thought that the iPad 2 was a minor update. It's a huge change from my perspective.

Aa far as CPU, I would classify the CPU change from 3G to 3GS as bigger than from iPad 1 to iPad 2.

          • Dood says:

While the CPU change between the 3G and 3GS was a difference between the iPad and the iPad 2, that doesn't mean we'll NEVER see a spec bump superior to the 3G-3GS as you claimed in your first post.

          • Shrike says:

Oh, I stand by it. It will be never.

Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and Apple will ship 2 GHz Cortex-A15 next year, but that's just wishful thinking. The low hanging fruit for single threaded performance have been taken. Now manufacturers are adding cores. Adding cores does not automatically improve performance across the board all tasks, and only certain problems can really take advantage of it.

  3. Dood says:

All I want to know is...

    Will it blend?

  4. Greg Foster says:

Seriously? Don't we go through this EVERY YEAR?! How likely is it that Apple will seriously deviate from their release cycle? I mean... c'mon.

  5. Shrike says:

Is there any money or other consequence to winning the iPhone 5 release pool? One year of continual derision for the losers? Trust for the winner?

Come on Apple. I need that 64 GB iPhone with an A5 SoC. 4" screen is you can fit it.

  6. James says:

It's like you guys fall for the same rumors every year

    • Andrew Flores says:

Well this rumor actually makes sense. If Apple doesn't announce iOS till June 6th then all we have to do is tac on 10 weeks. ( 3 Betas & 1 GM)

      • FLskydiver says:

They announced iPad 2 a week or two before it was available. They can probably do at least the same with the next iPhone.

  7. Hoffa says:

I think that it's true. I think apple is going to release the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5th gen , and a iPad 3 at a fall a event. That way they could unify all the devices and firmwares. Verizon iPhones, iPads as well.

  8. OneOfDaKine says:

C'mon everyone. Did Apple ever announce the iPhone 5 yet? No one really knows when will come out only Apple knows. I hate rumors period. If it never come out from the Horse's Ass then it isn't true..

  9. Microcosmos says:

    64GB FTW!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Glenn says:

If Sept, will all other products be moved ahead also? I say June iPhone-hardware, with software update in Sept to match the new iPod Touch 5

  11. iDroid Touch says:

It makes sense, but I'm hoping for a summer launch.

  12. 1stblogger says:

your iPhone can be a bit more unique ). it sounds cool..

  13. Kamleshwar says:

Is there any news on apple's official website???
