AT&T introduces new trade in program, offers $100 for your old smartphone

AT&T introduces new trade in program, offers 00 for your old smartphone

AT&T will begin a program tomorrow that offers at least $100 off the purchase of a smartphone when a customer trades in their current AT&T smartphone. The offer applies to any smartphone sold by the carrier, including the iPhone. According to AT&T:

This promotion applies to any smartphone AT&T sells, and gives customers access to the latest devices at a fraction of the cost or, in the case of smartphones priced under $99.99**, for free. To take advantage of this offer, customers are encouraged to visit any AT&T company-owned retail store or participating authorized dealer with their previous smartphone that is no more than three years old and in good, working condition. In stores, upon trading in their old phone, customers will receive the $100 credit on-the-spot and can use it immediately.

Phones valued at under $100 will be available for free with a new contract. The credit can also be applied towards accessories. Customers will be able to trade in any smartphone as long as it is no older than three years, and is in good condition. The promotion will last for a limited time, though AT&T has not clarified when it will end.

Like the HTC deal better. If they allowed other smartphones we are coming from (Sprint,Tmo) this would be very good.

impaler says:

I bet this will last until the next generation iPhone comes out - that way they don't subsidize a new phone, but give folks a chance to empty AT&T's shelves of iPhone 4s and 4Ss prior to the next-gen release. I bought my 4S in October 2011, and I'm up for full discount next week. I think it would be crazy for me to get a 5 now, considering the new one will be out soon.

GlennRuss says:

I believe it was at least three weeks ago, I was just looking in AT&T, and told the rep, my contract did not go out until August, so I should wait to see what Apple has around the conner. He basically ran the same deal by me. I will wait until the next generation phone.

$100 for a 64GB iPhone 4S or 5? (I didn't see anything about increased credits, based on storage and other specs.)

It's an unfunny joke to many but probably a genuine consideration for some. Please check Gazelle out before pouncing on pitiful carrier "discounts."

But I guess these are probably the same people who don't mind or don't know they're paying a premium on accessories from carriers, as compared to stores like Best Buy (not to mention online retailers).

So nice job on reading. Also the offer for the iPhone 5 64GB is $350 at last check.

west3man says:

That's what imore says in the beginning of the article but not what they say in the title or later in the article.

So, I went by what the AT&T excerpt said. Is that enough reading for you or are you moved on to correcting someone else with a d!ckish tone?

Fwiw, in the text, through the link, AT&T says "at least". So, that was accurate but consistency and quotes count.
