OWC rolls out turnkey processor and memory upgrade for the new Mac Pro

Mac Pro innards

That Mac Pro that's taking up space on your desk can be faster, better, stronger with new upgrades from OWC. The new turnkey upgrade program lets you send in your shiny new Mac Pro to OWC, have their Apple Certified technicians swap out your piddly old chips for powerful new ones, and then ship it right back to you, more capable than ever.

OWC's offering the option to upgrade the Mac Pro's processor to the latest Intel Xeon processors, from the 8-core 2.6GHz chip for $1498 to a 12-core 2.7GHz processor at a whopping $2978, saving up to 30% in the process than if you had ordered it that way from Apple. In addition to those processors, you can upgrade with OWC's MaxRAM to an obscene 128GB of memory. Apple only offers up to 64GB of RAM in the Mac Pro (four 16GB sticks), and even then OWC's 64GB upgrade is 48% cheaper than Apple's.

The Mac Pro is a pretty crazy machine to begin with, but you'll also pay a pretty crazy price for it. With OWC's new upgrades, you'll still be paying a lot, but not quite so much. Plus, if you're willing to part with your old RAM, OWC will give you up to $500 to trade in your old RAM. Is it a good deal? Perhaps the few of us that have a Mac Pro can gain some benefit. Let us know in the comments what you think.
