iPhone 5S wait time shortens as production increases

The wait for a new iPhone 5S has shrunk from weeks to days since last month, thanks to increased production of the phone by Foxconn. Apple has asked Foxconn to shift production from the iPhone 5C to the iPhone 5S, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Foxconn reports record profits thanks to Apple's expanding, harder to manufacture product lines

Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai, has posted record profits for its fourth quarter which amounted to NT$37 billion ($1.2 billion), a 5.6% increase, which surpassed analyst estimates of NT$35.9 billion. A majority of that increase can be contributed to Apple's expanding product lines and the cost involved in manufacturing, particularly when it comes to the iPhone 5.

Hon Hai CEO reportedly says iPhone 5 will outshine Galaxy S III, intends to beat Samsung in three to five years

Stop us if you've heard this before, but a quote is being attributed to Terry Gou, CEO of Apple manufacturing partner Hon Hai (parent company of Foxconn), this time claiming he said that consumers should hold out for the iPhone 5, as it will apparently put the Samsung Galaxy S III to shame.

Future iPads, iPhones to be built by Robots

Xinhuanet reports that future iPads and iPhones might just be built by robots, that is if manufacturing giant Foxconn goes ahead with plans to replace workers with up to 1 million mechs:

[Foxconn] currently has 10,000 robots and the number will be increased to 300,000 next year and 1 million in three years, according to [Foxconn founder and chairman, Terry Gou].

Gou announced the robotics initiative during a company dance party, which presumably they'll have less of in the future. Unless, of course, they're replacing workers with dancing robots.

Apple "saddened and upset" and investigating recent suicides at Foxconn

As manufacturer Hon Hai/Foxconn opens their facilities for an unprecedented media tour in the wake of a growing number of worker suicides, Apple has issued the following statement:

"We are saddened and upset by the recent suicides at Foxconn. We are in direct contact with Foxconn senior management and we believe they are taking this matter very seriously. A team from Apple is independently evaluating the steps they are taking to address these tragic events and we will continue our ongoing inspections of the facilities where our products are made.”
