Why Russian carriers are ditching the iPhone

As of this month, the iPhone is no longer available on any Russian carrier. You can still get iPhones in Russian, of course, both at independent retail chains and, now, directly from Apple. They're just off the Russian carriers, and Phillip Elmer-DeWitt thinks he knows why. From Fortune:

Belkin Charge and Sync Dock for iPhone 5 review: A stylish and practical addition to your desktop or nightstand

For years, Apple made an official dock to accompany a wealth of their products in the iPod and iPhone line. With the replacement of the 30-pin dock connector in the iPhone 5 with Lightning, many – myself included – would have hoped, perhaps expected a new dock from Apple to go with it. That never happened, and so we must look towards the third-party manufacturers, like Belkin. I recently picked up one of their Charge and Sync Docks, and it's a pretty nice little accessory to have sat on my desk. It's good, but by no means perfect. Let's take a look.

From 2G to 4G: How to make sure you get the T-Mobile iPhone 5 performance you deserve!

After its failed merger with AT&T, it seemed that T-Mobile was doomed. But the company has come roaring back with a 4G network buildout, game-changing contract deals for its customers, and an agressive marketing campaign. I decided to switch to T-Mobile when I got my iPhone 5, but I ran into a few roadblocks that finally got sorted this past weekend. I figured I'd pass along some pointers for others stuck in the same boat.

Grand Theft Auto 3 gets updated for the iPhone 5 display and iCloud game saves

Grand Theft Auto 3 for iOS just got a nice little update that brings proper widescreen support now for the iPhone 5, iCloud game saves and custom music playlists. For such a major title, it's a little disappointing it's taken so long for it to support the 4-inch display on the iPhone 5, but better late, than never.

Vodafone UK delays LTE launch, incompatibility with the iPhone 5 a factor

Anyone in the UK on Vodafone hoping for some LTE soon will be disappointed, as their CEO has confirmed the carrier won't be switching on 4G until around September. This is in part due to the current iPhone 5 being incompatible with their proposed LTE network. Speaking to The Guardian, CEO Vittorio Colao said:

Is 10 million shipped in a month really less disappointing than 5 million sold in three days?

The iPhone 5 launched to record sales figures; 5 million units sold to customers in the first three days. Samsung's Galaxy S4 has also launched to strong figures; 10 million units shipped in the first 4 weeks. One of these was a 'disappointment,' yet the other is hailed as a triumph. Seems crazy? Well, maybe it is.
