Why would AT&T be installing LTE equipment at Apple Stores? [Updated]

A while back TiPb heard something that sounded so outlandish, so beyond the realm of possibility, that we decided not to publish it -- that AT&T's 4G LTE launch hero device could, in fact, be the iPhone. It still sounds outlandish, even though there hasn't been word one about which phone AT&T will launch with, but given the availability of the logical Qualcomm LTE chipset, it still seems beyond the realm of possibility.

Making sense of iPhone 5 LTE rumors

There are a couple of conflicting stories this weekend about wether or not Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 -- which could be set for launch on October 7 -- will have 4G LTE wireless networking built in.

BGR claims to have caught a glimpse at a plist file (preferences list) from an iPhone carrier that shows some interesting LTE info:

New iPhone on October 7, no new iPad until spring, 2012

iMore has learned that Apple's next generation iPhone, be it an iterative "iPhone 4S" or a completely revamped "iPhone 5" could go on sale as early as October 7 in the US. That's a Friday, which is typical for iPhone launches. Originally Apple was considering a second week of October launch, more like October 14, but it sounds like they may be ready to go earlier now.

Apple to hold annual fall event on September 7? [Updated]

Kodawarisan is reporting that Apple will hold it's annual fall event -- traditionally the Special Music Event that focuses on iTunes and iPod -- on September 7, 2011. That's a Wednesday and broadly consistent with Apple having held their annual fall event during the first week of September for the last few years now.

iPhone 5 renders [Speculation]

MacRumors commissioned CiccareseDesign to make some renders of what the iPhone 5 just might look like based on the case leaks we saw earlier this month. And... I like it. It gets rid of the glass back of which I was never a fan, and adds back in some thin new -- and yes, sexy -- curves.

The designs show manufacturers what areas need to be open or exposed for cases, but reveal little else. In the past, this has caused some misunderstandings about future features. iPad 2 cases seemed to suggest an extra port at the top of the device, but that turned out to be a space for a microphone hole. Similarly, there are a few areas on the iPhone 5 case designs that are open to interpretation.

Wow, some iPhone 5 fakers have a lot of time on their hands

We don't usually believe in rewarding negative attention seekers, but boy did this iPhone 5 website faker put some time into this almost-certainly-a-hoax video. (After the break.)

Another probably fake iPhone 5 spy shot

A MacRumors forum member going by the handle guigsh posted the above photo(shop) in their forums this morning, claiming it was a spy shot of iPhone 5 taken in the office of a French operator. While we've seen spy shots of HP webOS devices under similar circumstances in the past, this one doesn't look much more believable than those [Chinese iClones we've been seeing lately].

A follow-up post from the thread author gives us the following information:

iPhone 5, budget iPhone 4 get rumored for China Telecom

Sohu.com has a report up saying China Telecom, China's third largest mobile carrier, will not only be fielding the iPhone this year, but two new iPhones. We're fairly sure an iPhone 5 is coming this fall, and we've heard for a while now an iPhone nano/budget iPhone might be coming with it. (Two new iPhones in one year? I'll have to call Phil and ask how to deal with that many reviews!)
