Let's be frank -- we can't believe we're posting this but it just keeps getting sent to us. Firstly, carrier CSRs are typically the last to learn about anything Apple. We've actually gone to carriers the day of launch and they've known less about it than we have -- they're simply not informed. So please take the below account with a blue and white striped Death Star sized grain of salt. Now, an AT&T customer care representative has supposedly told a customer that Apple had confirmed this to them:
What will the next generation iPhone 5 look like when it's finally released -- likely this fall? Will it be like the iPhone 3GS was, the same casing with faster processors, cameras, etc.? Or will it be an all new design inspired by the MacBook Air or iPod touch? (I've gone out on a limb and said my wish is a return of the metal back). Maybe a bigger screen like some of those Android Phones, or a smaller screen like the nano? Or could Apple push the pace of innovation again and finally give us a translucent device, like we've seen in Avatar or Iron Man?
If you could sit down with Steve Jobs and Jony Ive, and they asked you what you want iPhone 5 to look like, what would you tell them? Vote in the poll above and then let us know the details in the comments below.
(And watch the video after the break for a funny take on iPhone 5...)
Apple has pulled the trigger on quad-core "Sandy Bridge" i5 and i7 equipped, ThunderBolt port sporting, FaceTime HD packing, iMacs and as Steve Jobs would say, they're real screamers.
According to the iPhone Download Blog, Apple may be building two different iPhone 5 models for release this fall; a normal and pro model. The source of the information is an employee of an Apple parts supplier.
M.I.C Gadget got their hands on some photos of what could be a prototype iPhone 5 with a larger display in the white varient. The unit looks to have a 3.7" screen with edge-to-edge glass running an unknown version of iOS and a new proximity sensor reported to be included in the official White iPhone 4. Or it could be a KIRF.

Huge iPhone 5 rumor from Joshua Topolsky today, as he's heard that Apple's upcoming iPhone 5 may indeed be the total redesign he first mentioned back in his Engadget days, with iPod touch-style thinness, a teardrop, MacBook Air-style chassis, a potentially edge-to screen with no bezel, and Palm Pre-style inductive charging and gesture area.
Mickey Papillon nailed the Verizon iPhone and the chipset it would be using a year before it was announced, so when he says LTE just might be coming to iPhone 6 in 2012 via the Qualcomm MDM9615, we're going to pay attention.
