Iphone 5

Purported iPhone 5 pics show bigger screen, tweaked antenna band

While iPhone 5 might only debut this fall, that apparently won't stop the purported image leaks from Vietnam. If accurate -- and that's always a big if -- the pics show a much smaller bezel which could be indicative of that larger, up to 4-inch display we've heard rumored before. Also, the black breaks are missing from above the volume controls, which either places some doubt on the veracity of the pictures, or indicates Apple may have done some work following iPhone 4 attenuation and de-tuning problems.

A couple more pictures after the break. Check them out and let me know what you think -- real, fake, or really fake?

Sony 8mp image sensors for iPhone 5 delayed?

<img src="/sites/imore.com/files/images/stories/2011/03/iPhone-4-NFC.jpg" alt="Sony 8mp image sensors for iPhone 5 delayed?" title=Sony 8mp image sensors for iPhone 5 delayed?" width="400" height="300" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-58220" />

9to5Mac's Seth Weintraub was watching the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg interview Sony CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, when stringer let slip that cameras meant for Apple iPhone and iPad would be delayed to due the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Paraphrased: “Our best senor technology is built in one of the (tsunami) affected factories.  Those go to Apple for their iPhones…or iPads.  Isn’t that something?  They buy our best sensors from us?”

Momentum

In January 2007 Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone. Summer 2007 he announced its release date and "sweet" web apps to go with it. In Fall 2007 he introduced the iPod touch and iTunes Store app. Spring 2008 brought iOS 2 (then iPhone OS 2.0) and the App Store. Summer 2008 saw iPhone 3G and MobileMe. Fall 2008 was iPod touch 2. Spring 2009 was iOS 3. Summer 2009 was iPhone 3GS. Fall 2009 was iPod touch 3. January 2010, iPad. Spring 2010, iOS 4. Summer 2010, iPhone 4. Fall 2010, iPod touch 4 and Apple TV 2. Spring 2011, iPad and...

Nothing. Maybe.

Apple considering 3D camera technology for the iPhone?

AppleInsider has discovered patent applications showing that APple may be interested in including dual rear-facing cameras and additional sensors for a new 3D image technology in mobile devices such as the iPhone.

The hardware-based system would be an improvement over recent Android devices that include 3D camera technology due to software that takes "guesses" at how to conduct stereo disparity compensation on 3D images. The more guesses needed to process these images result in loss of quality and artifacts.

Poll: If Apple doesn't release an iPhone 5 this year what will you do?

While I refuse to believe the rumors are true, and will keep refusing until Steve Jobs (or whomever) ends their WWDC 2011 keynote 100% new iPhone 5 free, I simply have to ask -- If Apple doesn't release an iPhone 5 this year what will you do?

Why would Apple "delay" iPhone 5, iOS 5 to fall or 2012?

People with good sources at Apple are saying there will be no iOS 5 preview this April and no iPhone 5 in June and that might be so. However, many of the reasons being giving to support this idea are just... nebulous at best.

First, they aren't "delays". You can't delay something that's never been announced. We've already gone over why Apple not announcing hardware in the WWDC press release is meaningless -- they never have announced hardware in WWDC press releases but have never-the-less shown off the new iPhone there ever since 2007.

UPDATED: Will we get an iPhone 5 in June?

Will we get an iPhone 5 in June? We've gotten a new iPhone announced at WWDC every year since 2007 yet right after Apple announced this year's WWDC rumors started to fly it would be new hardware free. Could these rumors be based on inside information, or could it just be en vogue to predict delays on all Apple products? iPad 2 was delayed, right? Only no, it wasn't. Now rumor has it iOS 5 is delayed and iPhone 5 are delayed. Only will they be?
