Iphone 5

iPad 2, iPhone 5, Apple TV (2011) detailed?

Engadget -- which doesn't just run any old rumor mind you -- claims they have the goods on the next generation iPad 2, iPhone 5, and Apple TV (2011). The big news, if accurate, seems to be a blazingly fast, dual-core ARM Cortex A9-based Apple A5 system-on-chip (SoC) and a switch to dual GSM/CDMA (but not LTE) Qualcomm radios that can run on both AT&T and Verizon. (Which our buddy Mickey Papillon first heard were Apple-bound back at CES 2010.)

iPhone 5 is said to be a complete redesign, which would be very different than the identical casings used for both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. A "total rethink" that's being tested but only on Apple's campus (so it won't turn up on the blogs, obviously). Apple has thus far introduced new iPhones in June.

iPad 2 still seems set for an April launch as expected. In addition to being slimmer and sleeker, it will include a higher resolution screen similar to but not the same as the current Retina Displays (yeah, we're confused by these back and forth rumors too!), front and rear cameras (FaceTime, of course), and an SD card slot (though no USB, sorry). It'll also have that Qualcomm chipset and Apple A5 proc.

Apple TV (2011), courtesy of the A5 chipset, will be able to play 1080p HD video "like running water". Whether or not this is also on a yearly cycle, meaning we'll have to wait until September 2011 to see it alongside the next generation iPod touch remains to be seen.

Again, these are all rumors and while Engadget is typically solid things can and will change. Apple reportedly had a more conservative "backup" iPhone 4 in case the one we got didn't pan out, so they could have a more conservative "backup" iPhone 5 as well. Also, Apple has been known to spread disinformation. It is fun to speculate though so let us know what you think -- are these the next generation iOS devices you've been waiting for?

Will there be a Verizon iPhone 5 this summer? (Or, should I wait?)

Now that the Verizon iPhone 4 is out one of the questions we're getting hit with the most is -- will there be a Verizon iPhone 5 this June. In other words, should they wait, not buy now and get into a contract, and wait for the next generation iPhone in 5 months?

Why AT&T won't be releasing an LTE iPhone 4G this year either...

AT&T isn't getting an LTE iPhone 4G any time soon but they are launching 4G, in fact -- look up, look down -- they just did! Actually, what they did was call HSPA+ "4G" because it goes faster than regular old HSPA 3G and because T-Mobile is already doing that and Sprint is calling WiMax "4G", and Verizon is calling early LTE "4G", so why not? And when real LTE 4G comes out, that could be called 4G as well (though I bet they'll call it 5G to have even more Gs, because that's better, right?)

iPhone 5 or CDMA iPhone casing leaked?

Pictures have leaked out of a newly designed casing for what could be iPhone 5, the CDMA version of iPhone 4, or just a reworked casing for iPhone 4. If -- big if -- these are real the main difference appears on the sides of the case when it comes to the antenna bands -- there are four black separators in these photos as opposed to three on the current iPhone 4.

You will notice in pictures below that the band on the lower left of the phone that caused all the attenuation issues remains but there is a new black band above the mute rocker and also the black band is no longer on the top of the phone and appears to have been moved to the top of the right hand side of the phone.

Check out the pictures and a video after the break and let us know what you think -- real, fake, or antennagate?

TiPb TV 11: What do we want for iPhone and iPad in 2011?

2010 is over, 2011 is upon us, and there's just a few things we want from Apple and Steve Jobs when it comes to iPhone and iPad next year. Hardware, software, features, services, as wonderful as our current devices are, there's still room for improvement and that's topic for this episode of our video show, TiPb TV!

Whether it's reducing the iPad bezel, adding one (or more!) cameras, or improving the memory, Rene and I expect a lot for iPad 2. Likewise I'm tired of the glass back on my iPhone already and want something sleeker, slimmer, and yes -- way more futuristic for iPhone 5. We also want iTunes.com, a Files app for iOS 5, and several things they could straight out steal from Jailbreak like BiteSMS, theming, and LockInfo.

Demanding enough? Hit the video above and watch along for more, then tell us what you want in the comments!

Dear Santa Jobs, all we want for iPhone 5 and iPad 2 is...?

If Steve Jobs were Santa and you were sitting down to write out your Christmas wish list for iPhone 5, iPad 2, and iOS 5, what would you ask for? Last year we got multitasking but the lack of notifications made us think we're still more naughty than nice. What about 2011?

If you heard a clatter and snuck down to Apple, and lo and behold you caught Santa Jobs with a bag full of features, and you had the chance to ask him for anything for iPad 2 or iPhone 5, what would it be?

Give us your list, TiPb community, and we'll check it twice!

Regarding LTE Verizon iPhone 4G coming after Christmas

'Tis the season for silly rumors and while it's always unpossible (Google it) to rule out everything, the latest "Verizon is getting an LTE iPhone 4G right after Christmas" round seems a lot more naughty than nice.

The reasonable parts are reasonable enough: Verizon has been training for the iPhone launch, there'll be an announcement after Christmas so as not to ruin AT&T's last big holiday season hurrah, the Verizon iPhone is "100% cooked", and... that's where it seems to fall off the rails.

According a single "source familiar with the matter" (not Phil Schiller's Twitter account, obviously), MacDailyNews reports:
