iPhone 5 vs. HTC One vs. BlackBerry Z10: Judging phones by their form factors

Oh, internet. It seems like only last year the iPhone 5's design was decried as boring and lacking innovation, but fast forward to now, and the BlackBerry Z10 and HTC One (or at least a supposed render) stand accused of being too iPhone 5-like in their design. We just want to hate on everything, don't we?

Taking the Vader-black iPhone to full-on Blackout!

When Apple first showed off the new, unibody slate and black iPhone 5, I referred to it as Vader black. I liked the look so much, I escalated it by going retro-black with my Lock screen and Home screen wallpapers. Then, when AnoStyle was announced, I immediately wanted to take it one step further. I wanted the Blackout look you see on high-end watches and cars. Problem was, AnoStyle didn't offer black anodization. Not yet, at least...

So I bugged Ally and her Ano-Ninja accomplice, Rob, and volunteered to be test subject zero for their first-ever Blackout iPhone 5. And as you can see from the results above and below, they did not fail to delight.

How's the anodized aluminum on your iPhone 5 holding up?

So, how's the anodized aluminum on your iPhone 5 holding up? You know, the chamfer that runs along the display, and the unibody in silver or slate that covers the sides and most of the back of your iPhone? When Apple first announced the latest generation iPhone, there were some concerns that the aluminum was soft, the anodization didn't include sufficient layers, and that it was, in general, too easy to chip, dent, and otherwise scuff. Well, the iPhone 5 has been on the market for just over four months now, plenty of time to get a realistic idea of how it works in, and holds up to, the demands of everyday life.

Why carriers and customers are willing to pay for the iPhone 5

During Apple's Q1 2013 conference call, when asked about the mix of iPhone 5 compared to the lower priced iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 still on the market, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded that not much had changed from last year's iPhone 4S mix relative to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G, then the discount options.

iPhone passes 51% marketshare in US

The iPhone continued it’s upward motion for marketshare in the US, capturing 51.2% of the US smartphone market, this is an increase of 6.3% from the same period last year. Android now holds 44.2% of the US smartphone market, down .4% from the same quarter last year. These numbers come after the first full quarter after the launch of the iPhone 5. These numbers break Apple’s previous marketshare record of 49.3%, seen after they launched the iPhone 4S, and were reportedly helped by the iPhone 5 and older iPhone models.

Sector 5 case for iPhone 5 by Element Case review

I've always likened the high-end, aluminum bumper cases for the iPhone to hypercars like the Lamborghini Reventon or Aventador because that's precisely where they seem to draw their lines from. The Sector 5 case for the iPhone 5 by Element Case is certainly no exception. In fact, it continues just exactly that tradition from Element Case, bringing their trademark quality and corners to Apple's latest iPhone.
