Tony Fadell-backed 'Kiss' to share tech brings fast wireless transfers

The godfather of the iPod and creator of the Nest Learning Thermostat wants to get intimate with your phone through a new technology called Kiss. Tony Fadell has backed a startup called Keyssa, a company that is working on a a racy new wireless transfer protocol called Kiss, allowing two phones to touch together to pair and share content. Keyssa's technology would allow users to transfer an HD movie between two devices in just seconds thanks to wireless transfer speeds of 6 Gbps.

CurrentC could switch to NFC, Bluetooth LE tech in the future

It looks like Apple Pay and Google Wallet rival CurrentC, which is backed by some of the largest leading retailers, is looking into NFC for the future. In its current implementation, CurrentC converts banking information into a scannable QR code for payment at the register, and the group said that it could change and quickly pivot to an NFC-based payment system if the market demands it.

Passbook makes switching between different credit cards in Apple Pay simple

Apple announced its NFC-based Apple Pay payment system today that allows shoppers to go to physical retail stores and make purchases using their iPhone, rather than a physical credit card. With Apple Pay, users would just need to tap their phones to a compatible payment reader at their local market, and then the stored credit card information would be used for payments, making it fast, secure, and easy. It's similar to how the Softcard, formerly known as ISIS payments, and Google Wallet works.

Apple reportedly upgrading iBeacons, NFC ahead of iPhone 6 and mobile payments launch
