Apple reportedly upgrading iBeacons, NFC ahead of iPhone 6 and mobile payments launch

Apple appears to be upgrading the iBeacon receivers in it's retail stores ahead of the expected launch of the iPhone 6. The new beacons will make location tracking within Apple's stores more accurate. Apple also updated their EasyPay in-store checkout system earlier this year, equipping the system with NFC capability. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple's plans for their wearable device, which the media has already called the 'iWatch' include putting in near-field communication, or NFC, hardware inside.

Visa, Mastercard may join American Express on your iPhone Wallet this fall

Verizon iPhone users can now get in on the NFC payment action

iPhone users on Verizon Wireless can now use the Incipio Cashwrap NFC case for iPhone that allows them to make payments with the ISIS Mobile Wallet app for Verizon. The case was launched for AT&T iPhone users two weeks ago, and like the AT&T app, using the Verizon ISIS app requires use of the case, according to Verizon.

Fingerprint scanning, NFC rumored for iPhone 5S

Chipbond, a Taiwanese company, has apparently been tapped to provide some components of the next iPhone, including touch display drivers, NFC chips, and chips that support a fingerprint sensor.
